Granted, but the kneejerk emotional "gravity is a death pull" argument associated with price gouging would indicate that even though it's a simple shift in the supply/demand curve, people get emotional about the result, believing they're treated unfairly and need to go to the government or the courts for retribution.

Why shouldn't Americans feel that they deserve cheap gas? Hell, they're subsidizing it. Tell the oil companies to get their own Middle East security then and stop using the United States Military to do it. But so long as my taxes keep funding security for the free flow of oil, i expect to get it at a subsidized (read: cheap) rate.

It still is cheap. Extremely cheap. Oil costs less than bottled water per cup. Nothing is as cheap as oil as measured per unit. Gas is artificially cheap even at less than $3 per gallon (minus taxes)

Gas is not subsidized btw and there are many stages that proceed its initial stage of oil. If gas is subsidized based solely on oil being subsidized, then so are cd-roms, plastics, motor oil, etc etc.

I didn't say it wasn't cheap. And yea, i'm saying that oil based products are subsidized too....and i expect to get them at a reasonable price also.

It is economically impossible to price gouge in a free market. Impossible. Can't be done. Never has been done. Never will be done. It is even more impossible with the invention of the automobile.

If anyone tells you differently they are either a liberal or a liar.

1 barrel = 42 gallons. 1 gallon = 16 cups

1 barrel = 672 cups

1 cup less than 15 cents (per 100/barrel oil)

beer is more expensive than 15 cents per cup, even if you buy Olde English or Piells

^ this

Price gouging is a pejorative term referring to a situation in which a seller prices goods or commodities much higher than is considered reasonable or fair.

notice the use of subjective terms (fair, reasonable) and the fact the term is pejorative, denoting a negative effect. It is intended to be used to make anti-capitalist legislation more sexy.
