the union makes it maditory to pay dues, even if you dont want to be a union member..you want the job, you will be union or you can go find something else

that is union crime

there should not be anytype of barganing for PUBLIC unions...private unions sure..but not publc unions

So if bargaining power leads to corruption and thievery, if mandatory union membership or payment of dues is "union crime"... this is fine by you, if we're discussing private unions?

If not, please explain how bargaining power leads to corruption only in public unions, and why mandatory union membership or dues payment is "union crime" only in public unions.

good questions, but pointed the wrong way

I did not say it was good or bad in private shops

but in private industry, a person can say no.... a shop doesnt HAVE to be union.... and unions can help to CONTROL the PRIVATE booses/ceo's

in PUBLIC employees they are not working for a PRIVATE company, or a PRIVATE boss..they are working for the PUBLIC TAXPAYER

you can see the differnece

when I say sure why not to private unions, its because they PEOPLE have that right against a PRIVATE boss/ceo.....in PUBLIC unions, they work for the taxpayer, and UNLESS the taxpayer can VOTE (a simple ballot/proposition) at ELECTION time, or pay is SET by congress, then unions should have no say at barganing for what is taxpayer monies

that so called barganing is why you have garbagemen collecting $40-50/hr....do you REALLY think the taxpayer can keep up with THOSE costs

is it going to make a shop safer....no that is OSHA
is it going to make a shop more enviremental...no thats the EPA

nope it all comes down to MONEY, and greed

al a public union can do is DEMAND that the taxpayer give them more days off, ata higher pay, even though the TAXPAYER is recieveing lower services and themselves lower pay

and the taxpayer isnt even at the barganing table.....

as I said...... "and you want to know WHY it is a problem to have 'collective barganing' in the PUBLIC SECTOR............The problem is there is no REAL "collective bargaining." ......Public sector unions are a client of a political bureaucracy that wants their vote. The taxpayer - the "employer" - isn't a player in the bargaining process"

why not have the state/locals be like the FEDERAL government...there is no BARGANING with the union...your pay is SET by congress (or in this case the local/state legistature).......even obama agrees with this..after all he is the one that just froze government workers pay for the next 2 years

that is the point that the politicos here on CD dont seen to get

yes to PRIVATE unions (ie Ge, GM, microsoft, etc)............no to PUBLIC unions (ie cops, teachers, park rangers, garbage specialists, etc)
Here is a quote from the education forum, where this is also being discussed:

Quote:
The truth as I see it:
1. The average teacher salary is about 54,000 (Digest of Education Statistics, 2009 - Introduction) as of 2009
2. Students go to school 180 days, teachers work many days when students aren't there
3. Paid health benefits have been cut, retirement is most likely next (over all we do receive very good benefits in this area IMO)
4. Unions have improved our working conditions greatly (duty-free 30 minute lunches, not required to clean the classes, paid planning time, compensation for extra duties, due process) many of these are not unreasonable
5. Again many teachers leave for the private sector (see above) and don't return to this job. Why?
I think #4 is a big issue. "Back in the Day" many teachers had to eat lunch with the students, and even help the students at lunch time; clean rooms, plan on their own time, attend P/T conferences, concerts, etc on their own time, and not receive due process, which can be a big issue with teachers having parents complain about them all the time.

Not so. There are links all over this forum, particularly here and on the education forum (where I suspect many of these anti-teacher people have never ventured) about the improvement in graduation rates over the years. As recently as the 1960s, the national graduation rate was about 50%. Furthermore, graduation rates do not hinge on whether the teacher cleans the room.

which it still is in nevada

funniest thing is Obama proposes longer school days, because we are falling behind every other country in the world, and the first thing the unions do is complain

Yes, the unions screwed us. That is why we have the benevolent Corporations. I always appreciate that they are looking out for my best interest. That is also the reason they shouldnt be regulated. That is true Freedom.
