Ever notice how these right wing Christian types always resort to name calling when they have nothing productive to say?

Is that his opinion or is he simply stating a fundamentalist belief/myth that has been handed down generation to generation?

That would only apply if a person believed that the Bible was mythical. I doubt Olsteen views the Bible as a myth.

Eating shrimp is a sin too, yet fundamentalists who like to quote how the bible is always right about homosexuality as an "abomination" and should be taken literally go to Red Lobster after church and chow down on the little buggers. They are also an abomination, another verse in the same damn book too (Leviticus 11:10 through 11:12).

They are allowed their opinion, but when they follow the bible literally that opinion will mean more then a fart in a hurricane.

People seem to ignore that the bible has been used as a "reason" to take the rights away from every group affected in history...and each time the 'faith based' reason lost.

No, it actually isn't. It was a sin according to the Old Testament. But when Jesus came according to the New Testament people can eat what they like.
Alot of the information in the O.T. was to protect people's health. Very simple. They obviously didn't have antibiotics etc that we do now. Contamination was a big problem back then. It was simply for health reasons.

haha... fart in a hurricane...

The bottom line is that people are allowed to believe whatever they want, but it doesn't make them right and it doesn't give them the right to force that belief on others in a way that oppresses them.

Many believed slavery was right and used the Bible to defend their beliefs, but they were proven wrong. Many believe(d) women to be inferior and use(d) the Bible to defend their beliefs, but they were proven wrong. Many believe(d) minorities to be inferior but they were proven wrong as well. Every day we creep a little closer to our full potential as a nation by overcoming these obstacles of oppression of true freedom.

If we can interpret the view of the books now, with current norms/views, why can't we interpret the passages of the same book (Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13)?

One cannot view one part of the same book as a sin because god says so, and the other part as a part to be interpreted based on the time.

It's basic logic one would see in elementary school.

Default A Buddhist perspective

As a Buddhist, the views and opinions of a Christian minister does not have any relevance or influence on me. It's been said dozens of times, the man is entitled to his opinions.

In Buddhism there is no criticism or condemnation against gay people. The main body of Buddhist canon and law is known as the Tripitaka (literally: "the three baskets") and homosexuality is not denounced. Of course, any person who joins the sangha (or community) of monks, must refrain from all sexual conduct whether heterosexual, homosexual, or solo sexual behavior.

I will point out to those individuals who are so bold to use pejoratives and contempt against our fellow gay and lesbian neighbors, that this community (the LGBT community, that is) has contributed some of the most outstanding writers, artists, musicians, scientists, athletes, the military, statesmen, etc. to our society. Gay people serve in this country in many capacities such as Federal judges, university professors, police officers, in the Congress, as mayors of major cities, the medical professions, in journalism, as US ambassadors in foreign countries, in business and finance, and so on.

Man, this is getting confusing. I've just been informed that Leviticus' is God's own words, now there's a partial retraction. So the bits about homosexuality totally hold, but the shrimps are A-OK to eat?

Sounds like - and this may be my cynical nature showing through - sounds like the people deciding what rules should be upheld weren't gay, but liked shrimp.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. He seems to be in it for the money (and lots of it). I think that if he really feared God he wouldn't operate the kind of church he does.

"I never knew you."
