At
one point in March, Robert Gibbs, who was Obama’s press secretary, told reporters that the two laws were similar — then adding, "I'm sure Gov. Romney hates every time I say that."
And at his very last press briefing, Gibbs made sure he gave Romney a final mention, saying, “I think what Governor Romney did on health care was ... a series of the right decisions,” then suggesting slyly that Romney will have a tough time selling his position on health care to Republicans.
“I’d be interested to see if throughout the next two years, the two words ‘health care’ come out of his mouth,” Gibbs said.
David Axelrod, a former senior adviser to Obama who recently relocated to Chicago to focus on Obama’s reelection campaign, similarly praised Romney’s views on health care before leaving Washington: “[He] did some interesting things there on health care, you know,” Axelrod
told USA Today. “We got some good ideas from him.”
