Let me add to the Canada denial of care story.

Cancer sufferers refused life-extending drugs despite Government pledge

An investigation by The Sunday Telegraph has uncovered more than 80 cases in which desperately sick NHS patients have been refused the cancer drugs their doctor sought, in the four months since a £200 million fund was introduced to stop health authorities rationing treatments.

...

Barbara Moss, 56, from Worcester, became one of the most high-profile cases to be refused drugs by the NHS after she was diagnosed with bowel cancer.
After doctors said that without Avastin she would only live for a matter of months, her 86-year-old mother gave her funds to pay for the drugs.
More than four years later, the former schoolteacher is “climbing mountains and enjoying every moment” of life.

Repeat - since my original post disappeared.

I do not have a problem with people caring for themselves or their kids.

I do not have a problem with hospitals refusing care.

I DO have a problem with government butting in and denying care or medicine. That is the essence of the death panel.

Health Minister Anne Milton said: “Since October, more and more patients are being treated with life-extending drugs that they wouldn’t have got under the previous system. Demand for the fund will vary across the country; we set up the fund in order to balance out existing variation in access.”

Why is the government even involved in this? They aren't the professionals - they don't know what they are doing, except increasing their own power.

Because the 20 something kids in my online support groups and in my cancer ward who have to leave their Massachusetts colleges (and therefore lose Masscare) deserve to not be able to get medical care because they can't afford it. That's the rationing that's happening in this country today.

If the people have the money for private care that is fine. If they are on some form of Medicare over there and expect yearly 500k care, that could be tough to pull off on a national scale as the older population gets more numerous.

My mom died of two cancers and the truth is that unless you can afford a medical policy on your own there isn't the public funds to pay the over 100k bills for even an attempt at a cure.
My mom fought it for years and I bet her policy paid hundreds of thousands over years.
There isn't enough other people's money to cover that. There are some charities, but they have a limit to.

Probably the truth is the medical coverage you can only expect by the government would hardly be more than fixing broken bones, band-aids and some medicines.

The money isn't going to appear out of thin air.

We should stop illegals accessing the great society programs, that would make a bit more funds available.

I know what is being gone through here, but there isn't the money to pay for everyone's life. If you get a single payer Obamacare you will get lots of limited treatment without any alternative care option even if you wanted to pay for it.

No happy answer to this one IMO.

My baby's insurance just told me Obamacare was going to make the costs go up and in the last years since Obama came in the insurance for my wife went from $365 a month to $700 and she is just over 30 years old.
Welcome to the realities of life.

A very honest and thought provoking post IMHO.

Socialism, where a government bureaucrat decides if your life is still worth living

Pretty much the only redeeming argument the socialists have for UHC is that EVERYBODY receives the care they need, and that everybody pays for this. Of course the libertarians know that this is a promise that cannot be kept because it is an economically impossibility and here you have it.

Socialists are murderers

Are you not free to buy supplemental insurance to make up for any cost that can't be covered under the governments plan?

Thats what we should have in this country. Free care up to a point for every man, woman, and child, and beyond that you can buy private insurance to pay for it.

Realistically whatever system you have you can't have all the care all the time. A decision must be made to if a drug is cost effective or not.

Certainly in the UK and in France that is the case.
