The guy has been in jail for almost half a century. He has paid his dues to society, he should be paroled.
I disagree. If you murder someone, you should serve the rest of your life. I'm in favor of the death penalty in theory, but it has become basically impractical in this country. According to statistics, it's more expensive to execute someone than to keep them locked away for life.

He didn't just kill a man, which is bad enough, he no doubt changed the entire direction of our country's politics. He will never pay his dues to society. Never.

It's not a perfect system, but it is the best option we have. Don't get me wrong - a very visceral part of me agrees with the death penalty. However, if there is a chance that an innocent person can be put to death then the death penalty should never be enforced, in my opinion.
Yes, it does suck that the victims are dead while murderers get to live out their lives with the comforts of television, books and visits from loved ones. But never underestimate the enormity of the loss of personal freedom. Justice is served as best as it can be.
