I can't read the link, but are these young people all single? I know that here in Utah, people are usually married by 24, and many girls are even married just out of high school, so that might skew results.
The study, based on interviews with approximately 5,300 young people between the ages of 15 and 24, shows a decrease in sexual contact from 78 percent to about 72 percent in the last 10 years.
Experts speculate it might have to do with the emphasis placed on abstinence, or the concern of sexually transmitted diseases.
However, data over the years on vaginal intercourse among never-married adolescents shows a steady decline since 1988. That seems to be in sync with other CDC studies showing an overall drop in teen pregnancy.
That the trend began in the late 1980s seems to undermine the idea that abstinence-only sex education — heavily emphasized during the 2001-2009 presidency of George W. Bush — is the explanation, Albert said.
This is great news, really really good. There was a while when 13 and 14 yr olds were having babies, as if there were no tomorrow. And the Fathers were not around to help in the raising of the baby. And some teen's are not mature enough on their own to rasie a child, or without their Parent's help.
It would seem to indicate that abstinence teaching does have SOME effect.
Having said that, I wouldn't care if a study came out and said it went UP to 90%. Abstinence is the right and moral thing to teach...and that's that.
Even if it results in greater social harm in the form of increased teen pregnancies, STD rates, and children born out of wedlock? But hey its more moral right?
Nothing more moral than teaching something that doesn't work eh?
We teach what is moral...if they don't want to obey it, it's not our fault. By your flawed logic we would teach rape is ok...because some people will commit it.

I don't do this that often but you earned it...
