Why did we need a progressive income tax system, again?

Should we remind everyone how it was done before that?

As with anything on earth... Only the strong survive.
Interfering in that and nothing survives.

You know there seems to be a movement to solve all our economic problems and debt by taxing ourselves out of it. There are actually letters to editors and even newspapers that advocate increasing taxes. Imagine sending a message to a government like ours that has already rammed us this far in debt (Obama projected debt of a least 2 trillion a year for a decade if I remember correctly, which if I did, will mean that just with him we will add 16 trillion, if reelected-so much for all that BS about our grand children; remember when CBS wanted to throw the election to a democrat and they ran that fast rising debt figure behind Dan Rather? Now it doesn't matter much, and in fact its just means take more from those who work by mere force of law) that we want to pay more taxes-what nit wits. Well the good news is is that if you are one of these people, the IRS has stated they will take donations; you do not have to wait to get it from me, just give your own money: double it in fact or even triple, I don't mind, and if the IRS don't want it, move into a duplex, sell your junk, and give it to the local schools for computer labs or something-mind your own business and deal with your own desire to give away.

Well don't believe this is coming from me, but awwwwwwwwww shucks Both parties in my opinion take it upon themselves, to feel that they are entitle to other's people's money, both sides are guilty not one.

Both are guilty of ignorance in spending not just one. Both politicial party's we should all face, are not without fault, as is any of us.

Maybe it is just such a good feeling to wield the power of a wealthy philanthropist using other people's money. Patronizing the causes and interests they want to promote. I think everyone in Washington that gets near the money stream is susceptible to this temptation but I guess the socialism strain runs stronger among the current Democrat party.

It is hard for some to grasp that government produces nothing of value. There are specific responsibilities the federal government is charged with under the constitution and we have to lay that to the category of "necessary waste" and we should gladly fund those activities through some form of taxation. The drift toward socialism including larger central government and entitlement programs of every nature creates excessive waste extracting wealth from the private sector and squandering it hurting the overall economy.

Remember that government employees do not pay taxes. Their salaries are paid with taxes which is money taken from people in exchange for nothing, no goods or services were exchanged for those funds. They get a pay check and their W-2 may say they paid taxes but not really as they never produced or service that anybody exchange money for, nothing to tax. How would be economy fare if we all worked for the government wouldn't our taxes support it?

That is why as painful as it might seem to some we need to back down the monster to a manageable size and let the private sector drive the economy instead of the inept central planners in Washington.

Agreed. Public sector employees don't work and earn a living.

[wait - what?]

No, they do.

They just feel entitled to some level of life long "security" via tax payers.

And before you say "well, they pay taxes too". Must be nice to know your tax dollars are helping to fund your salary, your time-off, your sick/personal days, your health care and your retirement plan and pension.

Which 'public sector' employees do you speak of ?
Police ?
Fire ?
Teachers that TRY to educate your monster child(ren)?
Garbage Collectors?
Street Crews ?
You know what you get when you pay your employees poorly ?
Poor employees, and I don't mean financially.
YES, in some cases the system protects those that should be fired but this goes on in private non-union businesses too.

Both Democrats and Republicans feel entitled to your money. Some Democrats feel entitled to your money if you make 10 million, Some Republicans feel entitled to your money if you make less than $50,000.

Not all of them do. I know I don't.
