My opinion on this? The diocese should turn these bastards over to the authorities. The Catholic Church needs to realize that "reassigning" these Priests just increases their access to more victims.

Fear in Philadelphia That Abusive Priests Are Still Active

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/05/us...h.html?_r=1&hp

PHILADELPHIA Three weeks after a scathing grand jury report accused the Philadelphia Archdiocese of providing safe haven for as many as 37 priests who have been credibly accused of sexual abuse or inappropriate behavior toward minors, most of those priests remain active in the ministry.

That's disgusting. There was an incident in a neighboring area where a Catholic churchgoer googled the name of a church employee and found out he was a defrocked priest. The guy had molested children at his old church, yet he was able to find work in another church working with children. The guy had been employed at this Catholic church for 2 years. And the hiring committee at the church didn't think to do a background check on someone who'd be working with children? I have a hard time believing they didn't know the guy's background. Catholics who turn a blind eye to child molesters are just as bad as the criminals themselves.

This happens over and over. Why the hell would anyone think that reassigning a child molester is the solution?

Anything happens the church should be liable not only to massive lawsuits, but to FELONY Failure to protect charges, both those who decided he could be employed there and the heirarchy who goes along. If it was a private situation this would be the result.

This underlies that parents MUST teach their children exactly what is acceptable and what is not even if Mommy and Daddy trust the man. And if anything seems off they need to ask. Not only are only the pedophiles who have been caught going to show on a background charge, but things like this happen. Never *assume*, especially if the child shows signs that something could be wrong, that its foolproof.

And we need to rip off the blanket that covers our embarresment at the subject, and TEACH precaution to both children and adults, since they are specific but sometimes subtle. Better before then after when all the red flags suddenly jump out in retrospect.

That the Catholic church still employes convicted pedophiles at all is a discrase and shows they still haven't learned.
