The middle class has been going downhill since the 70's when mfg first started to leave the shores. Better internet, cheap gas and educated third world countries allowed more to be offshored.

This happened way before 2007 when the Tea Party first started.
But it's so much easier to blame the Right isn't it?

I have absolutely no complaint about athletes, C.E.O's actors, and other extremely talented people making high incomes.

My issue is this over the last 30 years the rise in corporate profits and executive pay has been out of proportion compared to the pay of wage earners. When the disparity gets as far out of line as it has in present day America the question becomes IS THIS FAIR? And if corporation and executives are getting richer while non-executive wage earners getting little if anything in essence corporations and executives are profiting on the back of wage earning employees.

Now letís look at athletes, entertainers and other talented individuals. First if you look at the history of the NFL, NHL, NBA, and Major League baseball players didn't REALLY start making big money until FREE AGENCY AND WHEN THEY USED COLLECTIVE BARGAINING TO STRIKE FOR A GREATER PERCENTAGE OF THE REVENUES. Before that they were in a fairly restrictive system where one time had the rights to their contract and they had no power to negotiate with another team for their services.

Actors and other entertainer also work on a "free agent" basis and they are also part of unions, which means when there are chronic inequalities they can use COLLETIVE BARGAINING to negotiate for better working conditions.

Now what's the difference from the people that have been most successful in this economy in terms of income growth and those that haven't?

They are exceptionally talented and skilled at what they do.

They are free agents meaning they work on a contract or a per job basis. People who use or acquire their talents and services do so in an open competitive labor market. Notice in corporations itís considered taboo to talk about salary and it goes as far as some people getting fired for doing so. Why? If people KNOW what the wage scale is in an open and competitive market they are more likely to get paid a fair wage.

These people are not unopposed to using COLLECTIVE BARGAINING went they feel that situation in their particular industry are unfair.

For the past 30 years the majority of American wage earners have been lead to socially indoctrinated to believe that COLLECTIVE BARGAINING is undesirable. That seed was planted in their head by conservative politicians most notability Ronald Reagan. Since that time WAGE EARNERS have steadily lost ground in terms of wage increases.

As an individual wage earner you have very little leverage to negotiate wage or working condition unless you are exceptionally talented and delivery high value versus you competition. An organized group of people has much more power when it comes to negotiate pay and working conditions.

Corporations with the help of Conservative politicians have done a wonderful job over the years convincing Americans they don't need to organize to negotiate for better pay or working conditions and Americans have brought into it hook, line and sinker.
