One of the major reasons is stability (not democracy - although if thats what works in a place, fine) and having 'one of our guys' in - helps with trade and geopolitical influence and power. Traditionally we did because we didn't want Russia doing it and exerting their own influence

The worlds biggest power has always done this, at one time it was the british (and spanish and french to an extent), they wanted control, power, influence not chaos or disruption. We are no different

Because, for good or ill, it became our's after WW II. The lessons of isolationism in the 20s and 30s were learned well and with much blood.

It is a dangerous game tho, even on its own stated terms. Intervention in world hotspots even for 'the right reasons' may well solve todays problem but at the expense of creating tomorrow's problem

Why is America the world's police? Cause everyone else is too cheap to do it... that's the truth of it... nobody can afford to send military anywhere unless its for their own financial benefit...

It's the only reason we do too.

Otherwise, we wouldn't stick our noses into something that isn't any of our business.

This is a lose-lose situation. Like the OP mentioned, if we do barge in and "help" (which we shouldn't), everyone attacks us saying that we should mind our own business, etc. If we don't, everyone starts crying wondering where the "American superheroes" are to save them.
