Rather difficult to do when the opposition is focused solely on making him a one-term president, as opposed to working on America's problems in a
bi-partisan manner.

I am happy Obama is quiet on Saudi Arabia. I hope he also stays quiet on Libya, since he has nothing interesting, clever or practical to say. No Libyans or Saudis care for what he thinks. For once let Italy (Libya's closest European neighbor), Arab and African countries deal with their next door neighbors.

You would be correct in your assessment. But you forgot one thing. The Democrats are also in bed with Big Oil, hence why Obama is hush-hush on Saudi Arabia.

Desperate to avoid mass uprisings against the House of Saud, security forces have deployed in huge numbers across the region.
King Abdullah is also reported to have told neighbouring Bahrain that if they do not put down their own ongoing Shia revolt, his own forces will.
In response to the massive mobilisation, protesters are planning to place women on the front ranks to discourage Saudi forces from firing on them.

Nah...there is nothing more peaceful than keeping ones mouth shut when it's not your business. And it's not his business IMO. Enough with the interfering in other nations affairs already.

High oil prices can derail the world economy and any president - D or R - knows that. Saudi is the only country in the world wth a huge spare capacity to produce additional oil. This capacity and their role will be vital in avoiding a run up of oil prices in case the situation in middle east gets worse. Any US president would have kept quiet abuot Saudi. Besides, notice that Libya is still exporting oil and there are no calls to boycott it - we need oil, and will swallow our pride and our chest-thumping about liberty - it is the pragmatic approach.
