And granted, Obama's administration doesn't know dick about economics, either. But blaming gas prices on him? That's just nonsense.
So the argument is that the economic collapse is entirely the GOP's fault? The Democrats had absolutely no say in government as Free Trade wiped out our job market and Middle Class, endless pointless foreign wars bankrupted us and left us unable to deal with the social needs of the endless Depression, infinite government overspending and overborrowing forced devaluing the dollar to zero while inflating the cost of everything we need to survive, and China is rapidly replacing us as the most prosperous nation because we handed them our manufacturing sector, and our Middle Class was destroyed as a result. Funny, I remember both parties doing everything they could to push all these fiascos.

The President CAN cause gas prices to go up, by doing exactly what Obama did: stopping/limiting U.S. exploration and production of fossil fuels, and devaluing the dollar (which makes oil more expensive) since massive government debt requires it or the whole house of cards (Greece-type debt levels and no economy to pay it back) falls. It didn't help that continuing Bush's idiotic policies of wasting all our money on senseless foreign wars now leaves us too bankrupt to deal with the current MidEast crisis, which also sends oil prices skyrocketing due to uncertainty of supply.

"The Obama Surge in Foreign Oil Dependence Program is highly successful as it has reduced domestic oil production by 13%. Gas prices have risen 67% since Obama took office. Then again, Barack Obama did promise higher gas prices (video of speech)." Obama’s Surge in Foreign Oil Dependence Program [Reader Post] | Flopping Aces

In 1973 we had an oil crisis in the nation, with long line and huge price increases, because we were about 30% dependent on foreign oil. In 2005 we imported 58% of the oil we consumed (Bill Wouldn't Wean U.S. Off Oil Imports, Analysts Say - washingtonpost.com). In 2010 we were at 66% dependency (http://www.trumanproject.org/files/papers/Oil_Addiction_-_Fueling_Our_Enemies_FINAL.pdf (broken link))

Of course, Obama may not want the U.S. to have reasonable oil prices, but he does know how to produce them--for other countries. "The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil's state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil's Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro...Either way, this corporate foreign aid may strike some readers as odd, given that the U.S. Treasury seems desperate for cash and Petrobras is one of the largest corporations in the Americas." President Obama Finances Offshore Drilling in Brazil - WSJ.com

BOTH parties are so equally to blame for the deliberate mismanagement of our nation that even referring to them as two separate things--Democrat or Republican--is a joke. They are the SAME party. They are the unified party of Big Government and Big Business in collusion to reduce America to a few ultra-rich, and everyone else barely surviving.

I have to ask liberals, though, exactly HOW LONG are you going to ignore the fact that NOTHING HAS CHANGED AFTER OVER 2 YEARS of Obama's massive spending/borrowing, and countless new regulations and taxes (Obamacare being just one set of which)? Businesses are quite clear that they are sitting on a fortune in cash reserves, but are stopped from hiring or investing in the future because Obama cannot be trusted not to come with even more fiscal punishments for doing so. Every article interviewing business leaders has the same story: we can't do anything but sit in place until we know Obama is out in 2012. God forbid he get re-elected--our economy will then be totally shut down until 2016. The Great Depression will look like the Roaring 20s if that happens.

Obama didn't say we'd have to spend trillions and still nothing would be any better OVER TWO YEARS LATER--he said we had to spend trillions to AVOID the unemployment rate ever going beyond 8%!!!

Exactly HOW long do you keep blaming the Administration that was out of power two years ago? And exactly what policies/taxes implemented by Obama over the past 2 years are suddenly going to "take effect" and get the economy moving again?

Maybe liberals can tell us exactly what nation Obama was speaking to, when he promised "Hope and Change." Was it China? Or India?

And maybe you can understand that the majority of Americans rejected the Republican candidate.

They won't blame him, but they sure as hell won't give him credit for it. It's pretty simple (and simple-minded): Blame Obama for bad things, but don't give him any credit for good things. Everything good that happens is because of Bush or Republicans.

I dare the sheep to disagree with me.

No; are you not familiar with the word "Mostly"?

When the banking system is healthy again, when the firms who made reckless bets during the bubble are bankrupt, then I will stop blaming past GOP administrations for the existing problems.

Nothing. When it comes to the handling of the crisis, Obama plays on the same side as the GOP.

You are conflating my belief that the GOP is mainly at fault, with this nonsense idea that the Democrats have a solution.

Lets see, gas prices were at record highs while Bush was Pres. and repubs wouldn't blame him but now that prices are high but not even close to record highs, they are blaming Obama? Wow the hypocrisy of the right is truly amazing.

And that of the left is truly astounding.

Which leaves the country behind the eight ball.

Cheer up, folks.

As soon as our Socialist President Obama is re-elected and inaugurated, he will take over the oil companies and the government will then own and operate the production of gasoline for the good of the People.

Prices are expected to fall to around twelve cents per gallon, and you will be issued a state-built automobile to drive.

Will that make you all happy?

Gas was low when Obama took office because of the financial crisis only. If you want a non-misleading tale of gas going from 1.50 to 4.00, look at 2001 to 2008.
