Well, DOMA IS the law of the land, whether obama wants to obfuscate his duty to defend the law or not.

See, he doesn't get to decide which laws are constitutional and which aren't.

Thank goodness the GOP is now taking up the DUTY to defend this.

DOMA is the current law and as such must be defended. If it is to be changed then do so in the proper manner and that is not by abandonment. Maybe Obama should decide not to defend abortion.

Here lies the problem where this should go to court and be answered. Several states have voted to ban same sex marriage. However preventing SSM is probably unconstitutional. While the majority of the people should decide the course of the nation it should not go outside the law. The legislative branch is designed to uphold the will of the people, the Judicial branch is designed to uphold the law.

It would be so much better if Pelosi and Boehner would work together and offer a bill to mind their own business in the first place and get out of the marriage business. Marriage is a spiritual agreement between 2 people. I have been happily unmarried to my wife for 20 years. She is a wonderful woman and we are as committed if not more then any legally married couple. The only reason the government is interested in marriage is for the IRS and census.
I wonder how many Christians (used with hesatation) that insist on legal marriage realize that the way Joseph Married Mary was simply by walking to her home, escorting her to his home and putting a mark above the door.

Doesn't appear to me that it's the gays who have their panties in a wad.

As a species, we were reproducing for millennia before the concept of marriage was thought up.

ROFL...........Oh really then why is "Your" divorce rate at 50% and so many children born out of wedlock? The thread is about Republicans wasting tax dollars. So you say let's go deeper into debt so that you and yours can tell the rest of us how to live. Typical rhetoric from the far right. Live as I tell you to live while I can cheat on my spouse etc.
