I would certainly hope that people would care if the victim were a little black boy.

To answer your question, people have a hard time seeing a perpetrator as a victim, or seeing a victim as a perpetrator. There's a good reason for this, but it's true that often those who were victims as children grow up to be perpetrators. I think this is what you are getting at, and why it causes pain for you.

A wise spiritual leader once said to me, if there is some issue that you are obsessing on, that really gets to you, consider it your personal letter from God telling you that this is your mission in life, to fix that part of the brokenness in the world.

Fix yourself first. If you have been sexually abused, seek therapy. If you aren't sure what's right or wrong, go to church and learn (make sure the minister has an actual theological degree from a respected college). If it all feels overwhelming, find someone who is already doing the work, and get behind them and follow their lead until you see your own path. It goes without saying, don't BE a perpetrator! There will always be people who will hate you no matter how good you are, but if you set about doing good in the world, you will find a lot of admirers.

As Ovcatto said, start with the conversation in the kitchen and work within your own community. Don't hang around people who are drowning in despair, but find friends who are upward bound.

Except for a few people, the world does not hate young black men -- they just hate the problems. Oh, and people don't care about whiners, they really don't. But when they see you making positive changes in your life and the lives of people around you, they have to respect you and then they start to care.

Here's an assignment...Look up the term "Personal Responsibility". The Houston story was a dispicable act against another, worst of all a child. A cruel act perpetrated by 11 animals. I refuse to address them as Men, because they are far from it.

A similar act against a young child occured here in NJ only 8 months ago and like those perpetrators I wish they never see the outside of prison walls again.
I'm not trying to portray the rapists as victims. Shut up. I can't stand people that think they know everything.

Not only does it appear that your OP failed in the substance department but it seems you have a reading comprehension problem Where in my post did I say ANYTHING about you portraying these animals as victims?

It is infuriating when children (of any race, gender, religion, ethnicity, socioeconomic background et al) are violated.

What I find distasteful is the framing of any tragedy involving children in racist/sexist/religious nonsense to serve an agenda. The situations of these children should not be used to score points regarding our personal outlooks/viewpoints.

you're about to get the fail frog...i'm holding back, because i believe there's hope for an individual like you. Quit being stubborn, and address some of the posts here that are asking legitimate questions. there is also some sound advice in this thread.

i'de like to hear you expand more on your original post, and maybe you can educate us more on why you feel this way.

So many people are clueless. If I act like a thug and rob and rape folks, I'm just a statistic. If I dress nice, get an education and speak well, then I have to hear ignorant bull about me being "nice for a black guy" or how I'm "not like the rest of them", as if that's supposed to be some sort of compliment (I know most white people think it is).

Black men can't win in this world. Look at Obama. He's an educated and respectable man, but people still talk about him like he's just another black thug. We can achieve and achieve, but the oppression still remains.

Actually you would be another worthless individual no matter your race.

How about NOT worrying about what the white or black person my think about you? Why dictate your life on how others perceive your success?

Obama can hold his own. One is only oppressed when they sit back and bytch about how someone perceives them.
