Freidman's book "The Earth is Flat" is a triumph of theory and what should be over observation and reality. Krugman sees the reality of the collapse of the middle and working people all over the world created by monopoly Corporatism and Crony Capitalism.

Freidman is a pimp. Krugman a voice in the wilderness.

I hate to second guess guys who teach at Princeton and I tend to respect well-educated people no matter their political outlook. But I honestly do not understand how Krugman ever landed any position of prominence.

You've got the wrong Friedman. Milton Friedman is a genius economist, Thomas Friedman is a member of the chattering class. And Krugman's solution to corrupt government involvement in the business of a free society is, amazingly, to remove the middleman and just go with corrupt government running everything.

I'm pretty fed up with all of this vs stuff.
Not everything is one against another. Life is not win/lose. It's mostly gray.

What kind of mindset do some people have.
Sheesh.

It would've been nice if Krugman won the Nobel Prize before it became a beauty pageant booby prize.

Nevertheless, Krugman didn't win it on his understanding of monetary policy or anything of the sort. That honor goes to Hayek.

The OP concerns Milton Friedman, not Thomas Friedman.

Yes, so what does that tell you about a Nobel Prize? Anyone with a lot of money can give away prizes.

Krugman never saw an issue that big government could not handle.

You know it is pretty funny watching folks who have little understanding of Krugman's scholarship much less Milton Friedman or John Maynard Keynes attempt to place Keynes, as some sort of rivalry and Krugman as some sort of acolyte of the former when the truth is Krugman, like most contemporary economist view the contribution of both Keynes and Friedman as a progression in the understanding of economic principles.

Writing in the New York Times Review of Books in 2007, Krugman had this to say about both:

Who Was Milton Friedman? by Paul Krugman | The New York Review of Books
