Melting pot means assimilation, what is currently happening in America is a Balkanization not a melting pot. There are many neighborhoods in Los Angeles and Miami for example where you can walk many blocks without hearing a single word of English. That is definitely not melting into the general population. That is not a melting pot, that is a salad bowl.

Can it be a melting pot full of salad?

Just great. What I escaped is coming back here and you can bet, the supermajority of the growth in the Hispanic population is due to illegal immigration, and illegals giving birth to multiple kids
So, from where exactly is it that you escaped?

Here we go again.

For heaven's sake: just because you do not hear a word of English doesn't mean those speakers don't know English.

100 years ago you would have.

Woodrow Wilson tried to eradicate the use of German in America, shutting down German language newspapers, banning bilingual education, trying to force words of German origin out of use by the media, etc. etc.

Germans seem to be smart enough to learn English when they come here
In the 19th and early 20th centuries there was plenty of German to be heard in America, especially the Midwestern cities and in parts of the Northeast, and pockets elsewhere (even in Texas). According to legend Kaiser Wilhelm II said, "even if America enters the War, Cincinnati, St. Louis, and Milwaukee are ours".

I also don't recall seeing them marching in American streets, demanding handouts & waving the American flag while stomping on/burning the American flag.
If you had been in the Midwest in the 1930s you would have.

As for today, since Germany is in much better shape than the USA and has a low birthrate there would not be any mass migration of Germans to America.
