As education gets devalued more and more (and trying to get an education becomes increasingly expensive) we're just going to see a dumbing down of America.

I expected that link to bring the crazy, and damn, it delivered.
It is well known in economics academia that The Wonderful Wizard of Oz written by L. Frank Baum in 1900 is loaded with powerful symbols of monetary reform which were the core of the Populist movement and the 1896 and 1900 president bid of Democrat William Jennings Bryan.
The yellow brick road (gold standard), the emerald city of Oz (greenback money), even Dorothy’s silver slippers (changed to ruby slippers for the movie version) were the symbol of Baum’s and Bryan’s belief that adding silver coinage to gold would provide much needed money to a depression-strapped, 1890s America.
We believe Baum’s symbols represent the only solution to relieve the growing economic hardship here in America – and the rest of the world. Practically speaking, 2009 marks the 70th anniversary of the 1939 MGM release of the The Wizard of Oz movie, so interest will be very high. Even Oz websites put up by kids get millions of hits.
Is this a coincidence or is it just me?... I've been watching these movies again after a long time and I've been wondering... Did these screenwriters know something that we don't?...

I find the coincidences in these stories with recent world events very telling given that they have happened in the last couple of years...
Pessimism reigned in the Carter administration as well.
When Obama is out in 2012, things will start to look better. However, after the mess he has created, it will take sacrifices by every American to right the ship again.
No more community organizers or Kenyans for president.
I actually liked "Network" and the "Mad as Hell" speech. Mental breakdown or not, he woke up people and spoke the truth. If that would happen in real life( and it has happened to some extent a few times) you always see the government heads and leaders of industry suddenly getting very nervous. Thats a good thing.
How about " Robocop"? Detroit is heading that way and so are many major cities. People are going nuts and society is unravelling. We hear about it on You Tube and the media is becoming less able to dicate the news to us. Thats also a good thing.
Here's one. " Sleeper" by Woody Allen. Watch that and see if some of that hasn't come true or isn't coming true.
