Oh boy, this is terrible, not to mention inane. After the doctor determined that she would not be able to make more amniotic fluid, the baby was doomed anyway and should have been delivered immediately to avoid infection to her uterus. She was also at risk for sepsis, which is when the infection spreads to the bloodstream. The uterus is highly vascularized and you don't want an infection in there to spread systemically. I cannot fathom that the anti abortion law did not allow for induction of labor in a doomed pregnancy. This was clearly a medical situation, not a second trimester abortion.
Juppiter, while I share your indignation at this whole thing, you need to realize that "men" are not the villain here -- as if women would be any more compassionate or reasonable!!! If you've ever had a conversation with a staunch pro life female, you know what I'm talking about. Also, I personally find it more of a betrayal when a woman holds a hard line on abortion. Don't you think you would, too? There are many pro choice men. I'm sure the male obstetricians were pretty upset that they were in a no win situation due to the law.
And this is exactly why it is wrong for a room of men to legislate what a woman does with her body. Because of Nebraska state law, this baby was born deformed and suffered for 15 minutes before dying mercifully.
Nebraska law is no abortion after 20 weeks.
Her water broke at 22 weeks.
She could have gone to another state.
Poor you say ?
She had one child already and this was her second.
If she had the money for an abortion then she could have borrowed money to get a bus ticket to another state.
If she was that determined she could have done that. The article says she delivered 8 days later.
That pregnancy was doomed once her water broke but she did nothing for 8 days after her water broke ?
This has already been answered by more links, but I just want to say, one should not assume one has all the facts from a short snippet from a blog.

Something doesn't sound right here. Also note this is a blog posting by someone other than the woman who lost this baby. Other than her water breaking early, there really isn't enough information in the article to tell us everything we need to know before coming to any conclusions.
What doesn't sound right is that we didn't have all the information. That should have been obvious to everyone reading the link in the OP. It was to a blog.

This just goes to show you the lengths that liberals will go to in order to justify baby-killing. First it's not a baby, but then when they feel like it, it is a baby an abortion alleviates its suffering. If this is not the epitome of liberal hypocrisy, then I don't know what is.
Pro-lifers (liberal and conservative, I know they come in both 'flavors', unlike those who like to vilify "the left") are so worried about the fetus, but apparently have no concerns that this baby had to suffer needlessly after being born. If this is not the epitome of pro-life hypocrisy, then I don't know what is.

You are certainly assuming a lot from a short blog post.

I too do not understand how the abortion law came to be invoked in this situation. This was clearly a medical issue.
I agree that there are many pro-life females, probably way more proportionally than men.

Well I am a man, and I'm certainly not against my own sex, I just know I would be infuriated if a mostly female body of legislators made regulations about my testicles.
Now now, don't contradict males with silly things like facts. They prefer to believe women are murderers anytime they're inconvenienced by something as trivial as a pregnancy. It interferes with their vacation plans and wild romances.
I disagree... why should constituents have any say in a woman's relationship with her uterus? I didn't realize that a woman's uterus was of any interest to the public. If her uterus causes constituents unhappiness, we've got big problems in Nebraska.
Many men are having fertility problems due to laptops overheating their testicles, but we certainly don't see government-restricted testicle temperature on the ballot anywhere
Especially not among the white males signing legislation basing their definition of womanhood on pornographic infatuations.
If every abortion were about run amok libido, where's the legislation for male chastity belts??? <crickets>
