Well, it certainly seems so.

War Powers Resolution of 1973

Quote:
The constitutional powers of the President as Commander-in-Chief to introduce United States Armed Forces into hostilities, or into situations where imminent involvement in hostilities is clearly indicated by the circumstances, are exercised only pursuant to (1) a declaration of war, (2) specific statutory authorization, or (3) a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces.
For some reason, I thought this man was all about seeking proper constitutional authority for his actions.

The law requires the President to notify Congress in a timely fashion when American troops are being sent abroad with a strong probability that they will engage in combat. It calls for the troops to be removed from foreign territory within 90 days unless Congress explicity gives approval for them to remain.War Powers Act of 1973 News - The New York Times

The War Powers Resolution of 1973 (50 U.S.C. 1541–1548) was a United States Congress joint resolution providing that the President can send U.S. armed forces into action abroad only by authorization of Congress or if the United States is already under attack or serious threat. The War Powers Resolution requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30 day withdrawal period, without an authorization of the use of

You mean facts, like those found in the text of the War Powers Act I linked to?

Amazing - now the Left is claiming this president does not need congressional approval when attacking another country. And to think, they were so upset when another president actually went to congress and got approval - they called that illegal, a war crime.

Funny how the text of the act itself doesn't quite jibe with the NYT's take.

We have truly come full circle, haven't we?

The Left, who raged that Bush had no authority, was committing an illegal act, even though he did what was required of him - getting congressional approval, are now A-Okay with obama basically ignoring congress AND the American people in attacking another country.

Do they realize what little credibility they have is being flushed down the toilet?

I wonder if they understand the stupendous hypocrisy they are caught in?

We can safely say now that their "protest" of the Iraq war was contingent which party was in the WH.

Obama should have obtained Congress’ approval on Libya - The Boston Globe

Quote:
Of course, the commander-in-chief can act without congressional permission to address an actual or imminent threat to the nation. But “history has shown us time and again,’’ insisted Senator Barack Obama in response to a Globe survey back when he campaigned for the White House in 2007, “that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the Legislative branch. It is always preferable to have the informed consent of Congress prior to any military action.’’

In the New World Order, the UN is Congress!

Wait a minute....

Hey, who pulled a fast one???

Yes, by all means, he has gone against the will of the people. He has taken a Dictators role in this nation.

First it was NO, we didn't have any part in bombing Qaddifi's headquarters.
Then it was we didn't follow up our Tomahawks, with bombs as planned, because of civilians.
So we did bomb his headquarters.

That is war, people!
