As for "family and community," what about those who have no family and live in a crappy community? I'm not talking about socialism here, I'm talking about basic safety nets that keep people who do try hard and "help themselves" from starving on the streets. Eliminating these programs will send them to the streets. That's definitely not the sign of a healthy nation.

Virtually all those families have televisions, internet service, expensive cell phones, even the kids have unlimited text messaging on their cell phones.
And the number one health problem in the USA is obesity, there's no way people in the USA aren't getting enough food, we're getting way too much food.
What would happen with deep cuts is people might have to choose between their next fast food meal out and their cell phone plan.
Or they might have to choose between fast foods and junk foods and wholesome meals. Maybe a peanut butter sandwich that costs them $0.40 to make versus a triple decker combo meal for $7.50 they buy with the cash they earn from working a little. Or they put away the expensive soft drinks and buy milk instead if using food stamps.
