A lot of news on the protests but almost none on the specific cuts. I am searching for some details.

The protests seem to center around health care cuts:
True extent of NHS job cuts revealed - Telegraph

Quote:
More than 50,000 doctors, nurses, midwives and other NHS staff are due to lose their jobs, according to the most comprehensive survey of health cuts since the Government came to power.
What a great argument for state managed care

Where do these protesters think the money will come from then? Should we just tax corporations out of business?

Imagine that. Not content with the per capita cost health care in the UK being only 40% of what we pay in the US, they want it to cost just 35%

People should pay 100% and have insurance for emergencies.
You'd sure see health care costs plummet once consumerism entered back into the picture.

Gee. That link makes it seem so peaceful; almost like a parade of pacifists. Try this link for images of the thugs smashing windows at the banks & the Ritz, throwing ammonia filled light bulbs and paint balls at the police, starting fires and in general wreaking havoc. Looks like something out of a futuristic science fiction movie...I think this is what people like Francis Pivens is rooting for in the U.S.

BBC News - Trade union members protest spending cuts in Belfast

"The alternative to the spending cuts is the £123bn worth of taxes uncollected either through tax avoidance or tax evasion," he said. "We believe that if that money was recouped it would lead to not one austerity measure being implemented. "In Northern Ireland, we will see thousands more people cast onto the unemployment register and we don't see any private sector activity which would generate jobs and which would make up for those lost in the public sector."

From the NI portion of the BBC.
