All of the people who warned that too little was known about these rebels are seeming rather prescient now.
Sadly this doesn't surprise me, human nature being what it is. People who have suffered years of perceived and real abuses will, of course, lash out at whatever target is closest at hand and in this case, these people no doubt represent the mercenaries Qaddafi imported to keep the populace in check.
And of course, the rebels must feel vindicated in their actions by the support they are getting from Nato, et al.
Not to say that this wouldn't have occurred had they been left to their own devices, and may well have been going on all along. This is what happens when people choose to direct all of their ire at one boogey-man and continue to believe and insist that all that is needed to fix things is to make him go away.
Sometimes it probably is better to stick with the devil you know.
Huh? What is this babble? It has nothing at all to do with these events.
Yes,meaning that backing one side against the other based upon humanitarian reasons makes little sense...BOTH sides are killing innocent people it seems....
Perhaps...not being involved would have been best, the position conservatives like myself suggested from the get go.
Never happens in a war, right?
I'm not sure not being involved would have been the best option. I don't have the inside details. I do know that UN was put in place to engage in international affairs, and being a part of it, we had to take a stand. We could have opposed (and technically supported Gaddaffi) or, as it turns out, we joined and helped the rebel cause.
If we must isolate ourselves, perhaps we should get out of NATO and the UN?
To those needing more evidence before making excuses...
Quote:
Non-Libyan Africans are reportedly becoming the target of revenge killings in Libya, owing to the perception that foreigners form a large part of Moammar Gaddafi’s mercenary force paid to kill anti-government protesters, the violent backlash is focusing primarily on black Africans below the Sahara desert, including migrant workers who had nothing to do with Gaddafi or his killing machine whatsoever.
Supporting a side that commits atrocities?Sure, problem is it makes it difficult to take the moral high ground while doing so...and yet that is what the supporters of THIS war are trying to do.

There are how many members in the UN?
How many are taking part?
Seems quite a few nations have chosen to not get involved in another nation's civil war....

The rebels that are murdering innocent civilians...right?
The murder of innocent civilians being the reason we intervened in the first place...right?

NATO serves no purpose anymore,it was designed solely to fight the Warsaw Pact.
The UN can get along fine without the USA being actively involved in everything.
There are many no-name websites copy-pasting similar stories without attribution. I have traced one back to a reliable source:
African migrants targeted in Libya - Africa - Al Jazeera English
28 Feb 2011 As nations evacuate their citizens from the violence gripping Libya, many African migrant workers are targeted because they are suspected of being mercenaries hired by Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan leader.
Dozens of workers from sub-Saharan Africa are feared killed, and hundreds are in hiding, as angry mobs of anti-government protesters hunt down "black African mercenaries," according to witnesses.
Rights organisations say that thousands of workers are stranded in camps and private homes, protected by their colleagues as their governments fail to evacuate them from the chaos.
About 1.5m Sub-Saharan African migrants work in Libya as low-paid labourers in the oil industry, construction, agriculture and service sectors.
While Gaddafi does use black mercenaries the majority of blacks in Libya are low wage migrants (many illegals) attracted by jobs and raising fears in Arab Libyans that their culture is changing. They are Libya's Mexicans but are getting a more violent backlash.
Should the rebels be bombed if it is found to be true that they are killing innocent civilians?
Remembering that the only reason we did this was humanitarian...
..........according to mr obama's speech.........yes.
