Obviously you've never heard of Martin Luther King Jr.

It amazes me how poorly educated some are.

highly doubt Gandhi was bisexual. and there should be a separate thread for Gandhi's views toward race, instead being off topic imo.

The book also discusses his racist attitudes towards blacks.

Here is one of the racist quotes attributed to him:

"Ours is one continued struggle against degradation sought to be inflicted upon us by the European, who desire to degrade us to the level of the raw Kaffir, whose occupation is hunting and whose sole ambition is to collect a certain number of cattle to buy a wife with, and then pass his life in indolence and nakedness." - Ghandi

I'm glad he made the logical choice and returned to India so he could escape from us "raw Kaffirs." FYI Kaffir is the South African equivalent of the n word. Ironic that MLK idolized him.

Unforunately, the prevailing view at this time was such. Society molds you the person you become, or at the very least heavily influences your views. African American and South Americans were different in many respects. I am sure if he saw and spoke to African American, he would have come ot different conclusion.

I meant South Africa and you are right but I was referring to the fact that he never met African Americans who carried themselves differently. AA's were educated to a degree and were forward thinking, unlike the South Africans at the time, who lived a very primitive existence.

But those darker skinned indians are at the bottom of the social order, discriminated against and treated like social outcasts?

That's true... from my visits to India. Skin color matters. Dark Indians are lowest while the lighter Indians are the highest.
