If you look at the metros that are red vs blue, you would see how blue metros are performing better economically and hold higher concentrations of educated people. Why is that?
Red states feed off of blue states. Red states also receive more food stamp aid.

Well that isn't true NY and California are economic basket cases.
What red metro areas? Urban areas tend to be blue. Rural areas tend to be red. Urban areas tend to be industrialized. Rural areas tend to be, well, more rural. Urban areas tend to get more dollars from the federal government, but because the population is concentrated, it works out to less dollars per capita. However, as any business person can tell you, providing services to more concentrated populations is cheaper than providing services to more disparate populations.

the "red" state also have most of the farming. most of the military posts, and a good portion of the national parks
btw...many of the "red" states (based on POTUS election) are very BLUE in their own states...NC for example has been a democrat controlled state for 100 years..even though it was a 'red' state in 2000/4

Actually I believe some have proven california, that bastion of liberalism actually recieves more monies from the government than it contributes. I could also point out that manufacturing, at least, is leaving/has left the north in droves in the past few decades. I'm not sure where we stand now but manufacturing has actually increased in dixie during my lifetime. Your premis may not be entirely correct.
........In the last few decades, the South has become more industrialized and urban, attracting numerous national and international migrants. The American South is among the fastest-growing areas in the United States. Despite rapid economic growth, the South still has persistent poverty, and every Southern state with the exceptions of Virginia and Florida has a higher poverty rate than the American average.[5] Poverty is especially prevalent in rural areas.
Sociological research has indicated that Southern collective identity stems from political, demographic and cultural distinctiveness. Studies have shown that Southerners are more conservative than non-Southerners in several areas including religion, morality, international relations and race relations.[6][7] This is especially evident during presidential elections and religious attendance figures.[6][7]
In the 21st century, the South remains demographically distinct with higher percentages of blacks. When blacks are combined with whites, it appears that the South has lower percentages of high school graduates, lower housing values, lower household incomes and higher percentages of people in poverty.[8] However, when race is taken into consideration, Southern whites do as well as Northern whites, Southern blacks do as well, or better, than Northern blacks.[9][10]
That, combined with the fact that Southerners continue to maintain strong loyalty to family ties, has led some sociologists to label white Southerners a "quasi-ethnic regional group."[11] In previous census's an overwhelming majority of Southerners identified as being of English or mostly English ancestry[12][13] with 12,382,681 self-identifying as "English" on the 1980 census, followed by 3,679,277 identifying as German or mostly German.[12][13]..........

The cities attract a lot of big business & academia, but it also attracts all the welfare and the poor. The rural areas might be poorer, but they are more self-sufficient and the big cities need them. I live in Illinois and there is great animosity between rural Illinois (which is most of the state) and Chicago. Chicago is very "blue" while the rest is pretty "red". The blue gets everything (including our taxes) and the red has little to show for the taxes it pays. Illinois would be a very different state if Chicago became it's own state.
Red states? Blue states? I thought we were all the United States of America?
Would you like to sing a round of Kumbya now?
There are DISTINCT REGIONAL and CULTURAL differences in this country based on location. We are NOT as "United" as the name of our country implies.
