As I have stated in other threads similar to this, I have a few Muslim friends. Two of them are gay (one Iranian and the other Iraqi). Neither one of them are allowed in ANY mosque, much less are able to be themselves in public. If it had been known they were what they are, they would be killed(more than likely stoned to death). That is their words, not mine. Their take on the burning of the koran situation....Phelps is an idiot, but what's waiting for anyone who is not Muslim in Afganistan, Iran, etc, is death. It is because of this, they have chosen to live elsewhere. They would rather leave their homeland, and be free here( and yes, to be able to burn a quran, bible, dictionary, etc or two, if they so wished), than to be demonized and ultimately killed in their respective countries.
Some of you still don't get it. The radicals that run these countries (Afganistan, Iran, etc) will kill you, no matter what, if you do not abide by their rules and laws. Plain and simple. For those Musilms out there who fail to speak up, and fight the good fight against those radical leaders, you are as guilty those leaders, Imams, etc. Islam is not the problem....radical extremist leaders within that religion are the problem. They leach off the uneducated, the poor, the weak minded. They call for deaths, murders, suicides. They are the ones who must be dealt with........
I think that I agree with you and to a certain extent with your friends. It is very obvious that most of the really decent Muslims in this country aren't going to fight the radicals because they know they will die, if they do.
However, I really believe that if so many of the good ones in this country would combine they could do something about the bad ones who are in control. I still say we should treat them the same way they treat all the other religions, and that is not good.
True, however that means there is more for the rest of us....
And that pork is surely good stuff, I think. However, my wife and our sons prefer beef so that is about all I get other than chicken and occasionally some fish.
I was amazed at the story an old merchant marine told me about some of his buddies convincing some Muslims that they were feeding them beef because it was highly seasoned. When they found out what had happened they came back saying that they had to kill those Christians who had pulled that trick or they were doomed to hell. The same man told me not to get off our troop ship in Morocco unless I was going with two or more others. He said you would get dragged into a narrow alley and get your throat slit, like it or not.

Maybe the threat of death is what keeps more from denouncing the extremists.

I am sure that is the case because not all of them can be radical but most of those who aren't seem to be afraid of what might happen to them if they try to stand up to the few.
...and yet, I have some Afghan Muslim friends who I grew up with, and just like any other twenty-somethings, they all went to clubs, got drunk, had one night stands, went to strip clubs, watched porn, then Friday they went to the Mosque like any good Muslim should. Then when the clock hit 12 midnight it was back to more of the same.
But despite all of their "sinfulness," they never ate pork. And supposedly in the Qur'an, drinking alcohol is worse than eating pork.

I voted "judged on individual character", but unfortunately to many deserve to be judged harshly.
