that is exactly what I thought too! I don't think he's a blatant racist but just a ignorant jerk! I'm surprised he didn't ask the reporter if he liked to eat fried chicken & watermelon!
There was a time (before the feminization of boys and men) that boys grew up playing sports. Not anymore, I guess.
MOST sportscasters played a sport before, has nothing to do with race, it has everything to do with the assumption that as a SPORTSCASTER, the guy used to play sports..
I do not live in Virginia, so I am somewhat indifferent to George Allen Jr.
However, being a Skins fan, I hold his late father in pretty high regard. I read Jennifer Allen's book that focused on the relationship with her dad. She wrote of how George Jr and his brothers worked for their dad when he coached the LA Rams. He would constantly admonish them to do a good job and be responsible.
More so, he held up DE and HOF great Deacon Jones as a role model, constantly asking his sons, "Don't you want to be like Deacon? How can you grow up to be a man like Deacon if you mess up on the job."
To this day, Deacon Jones speaks of how George Allen Sr was the first white man to speak of him as a role model- as a man that anybody, white or black, would want to emulate.
They say bigotry is learned at the dinner table. If so, then its probable that Senator Allen had a pretty good upbringing, free from that sort of despicable thought. He can be a bit of twit sometimes and even obnoxious. But racist? Give me a break already.
