Democracies don't shine. The process is inefficient, ugly, confrontational and divisive. In a fantasy land, once an election is over, everyone says "Oh well! My guy/gal lost" and carries on. The reality is that after elections, the next election is already underway and the ugliness continues. A democracy does not guarantee that the same people (who would rule in an oligarchy or aristocracy) will not be elected (because they are the ones with money and that is what gets power NO MATTER WHAT SYSTEM). Democracy is just another vehicle to get the same people in power.

U.S. Democracy is a marketing gimmick. The American people think they live in a society "of the people, by the people and for the people", when in reality, they live in a society "of the wealthy elite, by the wealthy elite and for the wealthy elite".
