Please have pity for Alberto Gonzales!
We have an Attorney General with a severe memory problem. And still, this brave soul continues to be the Attorney General.
I wonder about him, I also wonder if others are also wondering...
After a day on the job how does Mr Gonzales know how to get home? Does he have his home address on a note in his pocket so he won't forget? What if he loses the note, does he drive around for hours trying to remember where he lives?
Once home, does his wife have to remind him who she is? Maybe he has forgotten that he has a wife. Maybe he even asks himself, what's this strange woman doing in my house?
In the morning, during breakfast, his wife may wish him a good day at his job. Could it be that Mr Gonzales gives her a bewildered look and asks, "Job? What job?"
"You're the Attorney General, honey!" she replies.
"Hmmm", he looks at her thoughtfully, "Attorney General...that rings a bell. I've heard that title before. Well, if you write down the address where this job is, I'll go there!"
Daily life must be very hard for people who don't remember. You think you have problems orienting in strange airports between flights? Mr Gonzales has it much worse, he wouldn't even know why he's there. Or parking at the mall, someone with bad memory could wander around the lot for days trying to find his car.
Being Attorney General of the United States is a job with important responsibilities. Maybe poor Mr Gonzales should be relieved of this overwhelming burden and given a more simple assignment, such as weaving baskets.

Weaving baskets works for me!

Beyond any personal attacks it is clear that he is incompetent. If he was the CFO of any Fortune 500 company the CEO/BOD would have fired him a long time ago. Furthermore it's bad for PR.

Exactly what does that have to do with the price of beans? Are you trying to turn this into a bipartisan chuck-fest?

Modern misdirectional politics, when you can't defend your own actions find someone else to whine about.

Good point, and Clinton eventually lost his law license because he lied. Perhaps our AG should lose his law license as well.

If Gonzales does lose his license to practice law, he can always run for mayor of Los Angeles. Apparently, it's good enough for us to elect someone who graduated from an unaccredited law school and failed the bar exam four times; imagine what heights Gonzales could soar to with these rigorous standards in place?

The only reason he holds on is he is liked personally by Bush and he is a Hispanic.

Actually, I estimate that Gonzales may be quite competent. But he is doing his job primarily as a loyalist to the activities of the Bush administration...which he knows must remain secret at any cost, even to his own credibility. He is covering for others, and sacrificing himself. What would happen if he told the truth? It would erupt into a super scandal and probably implicate people like Rove and Cheney, maybe even Bush. Also, surely the White House would immediately proceed with an immense smear campaign against Gonzales.
I agree that someone like that would surely be fired from any large corporation.
