Oh "demwits" my god you're so FUNNY. Despite falling off my chair laughing at your original wit I would like to say that being a "lefty" I still want to cut spending. I want to cut a lot of spending. I want to SLASH the military/defense/offense/empire budget. Stop the "war" on drugs, close some of hundreds of foreign military bases, close tax loopholes for the megarich and giant corporations, gut out pork barrel spending, end the Bush tax cuts, end all three of our wars, allow for the purchase of cheaper drugs from Canada, end bailouts for irresponsible giant corporations and Wall St crooks, etc.

That won't dig us completely out of this hole but it's a start. From there I'd put a tax on derivatives, legalize marijuana and put a heavy "sin" tax on it, put large "sin" taxes on cigarettes, alcohol, and gambling. I think we'd be fine, and the rich would be able to "squeak by" if we raised the tax rates back to those "god awful" 90s rates. We should create a progressive estate tax that starts at $1 million. Also, we should create more tax brackets at the top of the income ladder so that those making 250-300 thousand aren't taxed the same as those making considerably more.

We also need to stop sending American jobs to places like China, India, and Mexico. The jobs that leave our shores are often replaced with jobs that pay significantly less. For instance a middle class man may lose his job at his manufacturing plant to China, and his job is "replaced" abroad with a low paying McJob. That not only decreases our tax revenue but this man will have bills and a family budget planned around a middle class job and may be forced to go on social aid to make ends meet or risk losing everything. Our "free" trade agreements are burning the American candle at both ends.

LOL. You want to increase taxes and regulations on corporations and the wealthy AND, at the same time, complain about jobs being sent overseas. It seems that you just don't get it.

We could easily cut our entire federal budget by 25% - 35% and not starve ourselves, at some point the people who have been eating for free will have to work for their own food but nobody is going to starve.

Right now corporations are paying almost NOTHING in taxes, and quite a few PROFIT from the tax system. We need to simplify the tax system and close out loop holes to ensure that whatever the tax code says a corporation should be paying, they actually pay. I bet we could LOWER tax rates if we would close loopholes.

And please, don't repeat the meme about "regulations and taxes," as if they're just SO burdensome that they CAN'T be overcome. Regulations and tax rates for the rich and corporate have been DISAPPEARING for the last few decades and the less we have the MORE corporations cry about it. Corporations will cry out in pain as they strike you in the face.

I'm not really afraid of what would happen if we did raise taxes and simplified our regulatory and tax codes so they no longer ABSOLUTELY favor the huge corporations. If some of the leech corporations and corporate welfare mamas want to leave American shores, good, I hope they enjoy the third world. We're a huge country and currently the government and big business comes together to keep small business and entrepreneurs down. If we fix the system and those at the top want to throw a hissy fit and runaway fine. I hope the door hits their asses on the way out.

Remember, a lot of people on "welfare" ARE already working. All they can find are McJobs that aren't making ends meet.

The last time I checked, McDonald's still has a $1 menu.

We know. Bush spent like a drunk sailor. His wars, which accomplished nothing, help to bankrupt America also.
