Most New Mexican Hispanics don't have any more to do with Mexico than their Anglo counterparts. As far as they are concerned, Mexico is a foreign country that also speaks Spanish. To say that New Mexicans want Mexico to retake the southwest is like saying New Yorkers want Canada to take over because they are also white, English speakers.

Whatever. Immigrants (legal or not) will adapt to the US over generations and the people already in the US will adapt to them. This has been going on for as long as there's been a US.
You're half right. Adaptation, the melting pot, has been an essential part of the American experience. But when Americans lose the will to make immigrants adapt to our ways because we now believe in "diversity" and equality of cultures and consider adaptation cultural imperialism then all bets are off. We are now in uncharted waters.
