It might surprise you! Here's a look at one of the freshmen.

"WASHINGTON —Representative Justin Amash does not believe the government should subsidize public broadcasting, vehemently opposes abortion rights and thinks Democrats are wrong about spending. Yet he has voted against every Republican measure that conforms to those views."

“I follow a set of principles, I follow the Constitution,” said Mr. Amash, who keeps a picture of the seating chart for his constitutional law class from the University of Michigan on his office wall. “And that’s what I base my votes on. Limited government, economic freedom and individual liberty.”

Isn't it refreshing to see someone who doesn't let their personal beliefs, egos & gains get in the way of voting to uphold the laws of the land; the very principles upon which this country was founded? Isn't this the way it is supposed to be done? How have we drifted so far from this? How can anyone not find this a good thing?

He seems like a thoughtful individual...

"His contrarian ways sometimes made for odd alliances in Michigan, where he lined up against his Republican colleagues to oppose tax breaks for the film industry, and teamed up with a far-left-leaning lawmaker from the Detroit area to make sure legal defense budgets for indigent criminal defendants were more uniform."

Government needs to mind its own affairs as prescribed by the Constitution. Providing criminal defense attorneys to poor defendants would be an example of following the Constitution. Subsidizing pet industries and organizations is clearly an area where government should not be involved, just ask the Allen Park, MI Fire Department.

Layoff Tracker: Allen Park City Council layoffs entire fire department (http://layofftracker.blogspot.com/2011/02/allen-park-city-council-layoffs-entire.html - broken link)

FYI: the Republican leadership is the reason the Tea Party movement exists.

he's the real deal. Tea Party all the way.

"If baffled colleagues seek an explanation, they can find it on his Facebook page, where he assiduously explains every vote."

"In the case of the spending bill, he does not believe it cuts spending enough, like other conservatives who opposed the measure."
