So long as xenophobic cultures' (e.g. Sweden, Germany, et al.) implementation of socialism are romanticized, I think capitalism will be on the chopping block for a while longer. That sprinkled in with legions of GenYers mindlessly walking around with Che t-shirts, actually believing he was a "man of the people".

sounds good.

I am specifically curious from the economics standpoint. Obviously there are differences from a sociological point of view.

A socialist economy does not rule out capitalism. They are not mutually exclusive. To imply so is misleading, and shows no more than a Fox-news-level understanding of economics.

Of course they're not mutually exclusive. Socialism is a parasite system that feeds on the body a host system.
The host system could be capitalist like the USA, Canada or Norway but it could be a virtual slavery system like the USSR, Cuba or North Korea.

Very true. Unfortunately the "capitalism" that most Che shirt wearers and others complain about is not free market capitalism at all. We have a crony corporatist controlled market now, the only thing free are the profits, yet the loses are on the rest of us.

If you are talking voluntary socialism, yes. Forced, no. Unless you are saying some things can be socialized and some capitalism.Even the example of the farm stand is not an example of voluntary socialism.

If this were the only way capitalism would operate, sure. But the real world application is far more complex.

That Farm stand sounds like it is real to me, I know of one in my area.

I do agree, capitalism can get complex, especially when corporate charters were expanded in scope.

When were the corporate charters expanded in scope? Would you have something to read about along those lines?
