I don't even know why this article was cited. It certainly isn't conclusive of anything. It's just another addition to the bombardment effort by gay guys on City Data to promote homosexuality.

Like to act with strong conservative values? Sounds terrible.

I don't remember reading either of the above quotes in the cited study. You just made that up. Who says there's less room for individual expression? You could become an artist. Write poetry. Write music. Do woodwork. Create recipes.

Since every other thread on CD is about gays, why don't you inform your recruits about the unhealthy lifestyle of homosexuals? Which is far more alarming than the 5% difference in attempted suicides by homosexual teens from the county with the most Democrats and the county with the least amount of Democrats in Oregon.

I wouldn't want my kid to get talked into becoming gay. It is a very unhealthy lifestyle. From Public Health - Seattle & King County:

Anal cancer among the gay and bisexual men

The article focused on gay teen suicide rates being higher in conservative areas.

And I'm sure that there are a few conservative towns that have lower suicide rates than the liberal ones.

Not to mention that Sweden was .2 people suicides higher than the US (20 vs. 19.8).
Is Sweden higher? Then you shouldn't have mentioned it.

CHICAGO — Suicide attempts by gay teens — and even straight kids — are more common in politically conservative areas where schools don't have programs supporting gay rights, a study involving nearly 32,000 high school students found
Ok so, misleading title then. First paragraph tries to tie in teen suicide overall, with the gay community. So this article, and the OP, mean to say that gay teens are more likely to commit suicide in conservative areas.

Religious nations have lower suicide rates.

In More Religious Countries, Lower Suicide Rates

Come to think of it this entire premise is so easily debunked that it is no surprise MSNBC would feature it.

No disrespect to you AUM.

Geeez, another thread with some random statistic, and once again... being a (fill-in-the-blank) equals being significantly less then what the hell AnUnidentifiedMale, or whoever, is comparing it to.

I'll bet I could find a study that shows people who own a 1998 Ford as their main transportation, are poor. Which means, 1998 Ford cars and trucks cause poverty and low income.

Information on non-voters wasn't examined. How do you know how many non-voters are liberal and how many are conservative? This study was based on the number of registered Democratic voters in each county in Oregon.

I take it your not a psychologist. I think that it's very disrespectful to those that have died and to the families to call them weak minds. I think that you do not know each individual scenario.

Look, it's highly easy to criticize those that commit suicide. Good job of compassion and empathy there.

Right because 19.8 vs. 20 is not close. Also, that was the point (that ideology and suicide rates do not go hand in hand on such a macro level). Suicide rates actually have many diverse factors affecting them.

I think that you should have probably ask the person who posted their point rather than simply assume the poster was going on ideological lines.
