Really? The program started by Bush that no one ever funded in the first place?
From your link:
Quote:
"Last year, an independent committee led by former Lockheed Martin CEO Norman Augustine reviewed NASA's moon plan and found it hobbled by severe underfunding and delays."
NASA Administrator Charles Bolden also stated (from your link) endorsing the commercial industry involvement of the new replacement:
Quote:
"It enables us to draw more strongly on the ingenuity of the commercial sector and create deeper ties with our international partners."
The administration actually increased NASA's total budget slightly, also in the link. Did you not even bother to read the link you used to back yourself up, or did you just do a Google search on "Obama cuts shuttle replacement" and copy the first link?
Guess what, the money to do this comes from taxes (without additional debt)...that's how the real world works. Without tax revenue to support the program you can't magically fund programs with the use of the magical money fairy.
It has been speculated that because Florida is a "must win" state for 2012, that Obama is attending this particular shuttle launch for campaign purposes. He has put so many Floridians out of work specifically and insulted so many with his statement that NASA should be an agency for "Muslim outreach" that it is quite possible he will have something up his sleeve. Some speculate an announcement to win back those votes he as p.o.'d in regard to NASA and its future. Every move Obama makes is politically calculated to his best interest.

My friend it seems that everything Obama does is for his own political aspirations like also his going to Alabama today and if it weren't for his re-election bid he probably wouldn't have gone there either.
I thought this was already settled during the last administration.....plus, Im not shedding a tear for any floridians....plenty of people in the Houston area will be losing jobs too due to the loss of the NASA program

i hear yas,, i would just call them very, very expensive clunkers. just think all them years of shuttles and now we are going back to rocket and capsule.
remember when neil armstrong said "one small step for mankind, opps one giant leap for mankind" well he couldn't have been more accurate when he said" one small step for mankind" i would like to know how going to the moon was a giant leap for mankind.. going to the moon was like flying over a grain of sand in a trillion sahara deserts.. it was just what he accidentally said "one small step for mankind" and nothing more..
nasa just a fancy way to spand tax payers moony ok some good tings cometh from nasa..
post note.. you wouldn't know where i could get one of those 2 million dolla nasa hammers, would ya..?? i hear one can drive a 6 inch nail with one swing, with one of those nasa hammas
Let them bet bitter, Houston has always had a "problem" with the fact that we build and launch the orbiter. Yeah, they can stand out side JSC and watch a building that communicates with the crew, but we get to see them from our own backyards as they break the bonds of this earth and defy gravity (cue the song from Wicked).

As usual, you are soooooooo right!
Gonna set the camera up with the biiiiig lens to catch some shots from my back paddock, set up the telescopes, chill some beers, make some goodies, invite the neighbors and make an event of it!

thats true...the shuttles do take off from kennedy....ive seen a couple of shuttle launches myself in florida...however, every astronaut who has flown any mission has lived, worked and trained here in the Houston area, and down in Clear Lake, there is a strong contingent of former astronauts who still call this place home long after they are retired.
Everyone wants government programs cut until it causes a problem "in their own backyard." Believe me, I understand, one of my parents works in the aerospace/NASA field and who also admits that much of the program is a big waste of money. I hate to see folks lose their jobs, but there was a reason it was scrapped many years ago and we certainly don't have the funding to continue it now. What is the benefit of it to our country?
It is also ridiculous that Houston doesn't get any of the shuttles!
