The Alabama Senate approved a measure on Wednesday that would eliminate references to "Jim Crow" or segregationist laws as well as all mentions of race from the state constitution.
The legislation passed in a 22-9 vote, with all Republicans voting in favor after an all-night session, said Republican Senator Jabo Waggoner.
Ya I know, I kind of wondered why, but I am pretty sure it deals with trying to honor the African-American suffrage that was endured during th era of Jim Crow. Not that we should ever forget or dicredit what happened. But that constitution is over 100 years old, it needs to progress and move foreword. The newer generation of Alabamians would like nothing more than for Alabama to shed it's outdated, racist image and be taken more serious. And understandably so.
