It is remembered. I just wouldn't waste my time trying to do it on CD.
After all, if it's not teabagger protests, "they" deserve to be killed. The meme of CD.
That's a valid point. I am ever hopeful that something will kick-start the hearts of some people...one would be plenty...but I'm endlessly disappointed. Ah, well...at least the four students will be remembered by a few who'll read the link.
Apparently 1968 was not a good year for freedom of speech all around.
Damned not for the SDS at my school. I promised those kids that I would take those people down and intended to do it. I would have had plenty of support from the inhabitants of our tiny town, also.

You wouldn't have done anything but complain tough guy
I have a co-worker claim he was there in the ONG and fired upon the protesters. He bragged about it a lot.
When an Antiques Roadshow had a copy of the letter of apology showcased (I was at the event and snapped a photo). I searched for his name but never found it. I asked him if he signed it and he knew nothing about such a letter. Sad that he had to revel in that terrible carnage of the day for all those years.
Both sides were wrong and right. A regretful day in our history. Worthy of note but not as a celebration.
That was a terrible and tragic day all around. I remember watching a documentary on PBS about Kent State and was surprised to find myself feeling just as sorry for the confused National Guard soldiers as I did for the students. It's too bad that this is probably the only reason that school is known much outside of Ohio and is identified as such the way Dallas was for so many years after JFK.
Even though 'Remember Kent State' signs are hoisted around as a battlecry of why America is supposedy the worst country ever I for one actually feel fortunate that it was such a rare, isolated event. Think of all the thousands of students and other protesters slaughtered in the streets around the world by their governments and ask yourself if you'd rather live there.

Except for those black kids at Jackson State.
Kent is a pretty good school, I knew about it way before the shootings.
So, since only a few were murdered in the US, it's all good?
Actually, the use of live ammunition in Wisconsin was mentioned more than once regarding the protesters in that state, so the stretch isn't mine...that sickness lies elsewhere.
There were many arrests of protesters who were not exactly peaceful. Law enforcement in WI never fired upon anyone. You are trying to equivivate two situations that are not comparable. You are reaching, inappropriately, and it is a sick and sad attempt.
Frankly it would be more appropriate, since your focus is upon violence, to discuss the Weather Underground and the violence they were perpetuating at the time.
I've waited all day for someone to start thread about this being the 41st anniversary of the murders at Kent State. How quickly we forget, especially taking into account the recent inflammatory speech regarding Wisconsin. But this is a black day, a day of shame. America is not a banana republic, killing its unarmed dissenters in the streets. Yet that happened in Ohio, and the country was ashamed. It's time to spend a moment remembering Kent State (or just learning about it), lest history repeat itself. May they rest in peace, and we remember the need for it.
I think there was quite a bit of coverage last year on the 40th. I was 11 when it happened, and I remember being horrified by the scenes. I couldn't understand how that could happen. Matter of fact, I still don't.
