Samarra, Tikrit, Cairo was nasty. Middle of Seoul was insane during the anti-American riots of '87. San Salvador really made me nervous too. Not to mention Prospect Ave in KC before they built the bypass.
Juarez? Used to be fun until around '96 or so.
How about you cd posters, any survival stories?

I've walked around several cities for several hours without incident, wasn't really paying attention to how bad or how good the neighborhood was. Then again, these are American cities, where I don't really worry as much. If I walked through a bad neighborhood in Cambodia or Vietnam, I never knew it.

I've been a soldier in two war zones and traveled in several third world ghettos. My experience is there are loads of common sense things one can do to minimize danger or, by ignorance or laziness, increase the danger. I'm still kicking despite where I have been so I must be doing something right.

State of Guerrero during the major Chiapas uprisings and conflicts with the Mexican government. Traveled up and down the coast for a couple of weeks. Actually had conversations with both rebel supporters and government supporters. Amazing how everything seems to be the same in power struggles no matter where you are at. Just different places and names. This was as a civilian. Does not include some hairy military ops. But thats a different story. Ok enough of that.

Hey libers Obama is a buffoon.

Barry Farms, Washington DC, went there often when I was visiting the military base right next to it.

Went to the East End of Newport News, VA often which is the rough and tumble neighborhood Mike Vick grew up in.

I've never really been scared anywhere I've been, but in retrospect my drunken 1 hour walk back to the hotel last year in Guadalajara probably wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done.

Washington, D.C. on the green line after 10 pm. I was the only white guy and unlike here at home, did not have my gun on me!

5th Ward in Houston, Tx. aka the "Bloody Nickel".

Parts of Fort Worth used to be pretty bad back in the 90's & got the nick name "Murder Worth".

Quite a few areas of New Orleans I saw looked pretty damn ghetto.

E St. Louis, IL in the early '70s.

MO's drinking age was 21 and IL's was 19 for beer and wine.

We sometimes went into some pretty scary E. St Louis joints to get booze-to-go back then.

Even got told to leave a couple of fine, upscale establishments because they didn't like to serve whiteys
