This is fricking hilarious and pathetic

"Am I the president of the Republic of Banana?"

Yes, you very well were, grasshopper.

Osama bin Laden death: Afghanistan 'had Abbottabad lead four years ago' | World news | guardian.co.uk

But the former spy chief said that Pervez Musharraf, then president of Pakistan, was outraged at the suggestion that Bin Laden was hiding in such a prominent part of the country.

In a meeting with Musharraf and Hamid Karzai the Pakistani president became furious and smashed his fist down on the table. "He said, 'Am I the president of the Republic of Banana?'" Saleh recalled. "Then he turned to President Karzai and said, 'Why have you have brought this Panjshiri guy to teach me intelligence?'"

He said Karzai had to intervene as Musharraf got increasingly angry and began to physically threaten Saleh.

I was afraid that link would be about Obama and was relieved to learn that it wasn't.

Now, why didn't they tell the Americans about what they thought? Why did we have to wait for them to find out themselves?

As early in 2004, Amrullah Saleh told the Guardian.

He said they believed Bin Laden must be there based on "thousands of interrogation reports" and the assumption that Osama – "a millionaire with multiple wives and no background of toughness" – would not be living in a tent.

"I was pretty sure he was in the settled areas of Pakistan because in 2005 it was still very easy to infiltrate the tribal areas, and we had massive numbers of informants there," he said. "They could find any Arab but not Bin Laden."

Makes me wonder why the US clung to stating
Bin Laden was in a cave in the mountains of Pakistan,
then, all these past years....

If you've ever looked at any of the tapes released of OBL,
his clothes were always impeccable. I would always comment "I wonder what soap he used". Someone even
mentioning today on C-span that they suspected any
connection between a courier and Bin Laden should have
indicated a need to be near a city.

A lot of these things seem more like common sense deductions now, not high tech CIA stuff.

But then hindsight is just that.

CIA spied on bin Laden from safe house - The Washington Post

"The CIA maintained a safe house in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad for a small team of spies who conducted extensive surveillance over a period of months on the compound where Osama bin Laden was killed by U.S. Special Operations forces this week, U.S. officials said.

The secret CIA facility was used as a base of operations for one of the most delicate human intelligence gathering missions in recent CIA history, one that relied on Pakistani informants and other sources to help assemble a “pattern of life” portrait of the occupants and daily activities at the fortified compound where bin Laden was found, the officials said."

See, that's what I thought. They would have spies
on the ground studying the comings and goings of
that compound. Thanks for the link
