They tried but the tail survived and that is what drew so much attention from the media. No one has ever seen anything like it. You haven't seen the picutres? It's got a large dish type thing on the end that doesn't serve any aviation prurpose on a helicopter.
Reports from peopel on the ground said that nobody heard the helicopters until they were right overhead and all electronics and cell phones whent dead within a multiblock area. That's what made me think they did some kind of EMP.

too late as this just recently released secret spy video confirms that the Pakistanis have already used the tiny bit of information gleamed from the remaining wreckage to jump start their air force program and are in full development mode...
