Oh and somewhat related is the H.R. 2401 I think it is "No Fly, No Buy". Chuck Schumer has introduced NO RIDE. Just WAIT until they mandate having to show your national I.D. for every purchase you make. Now that it is common knowledge that they are spying on and tracking your whereabouts via your cell phone, before you know it they'll be creating "lists" of people who can not only not fly or buy a gun or ride a train, but who have been denied access to their own money and aren't allowed to buy food--- because the "government says so" for everyones "safety". Isn't THAT SPECIAL?

Are they MONSTERS or WHAT?

That's the classic definition of martial law. Where the government treats us all as potential belligerents (or enemy combatants for those that don't know the term) so they have to restrict our movement and ability to function lest we "attack" the enemy (non-violently, of course)

Anyone ever leave the country? All that info is on your passport. Living within 30 miles of Canada, most people here frequently go and have enhanced driver licenses.

I have no problem with having my passport with me to go to another country and return. I DO have a problem with the federal govt. not allowing people to be asked citizenship if they are stopped ( as in AZ. -- lets get real, it isn't just Hispanics here illegally; in NY State there are tons of non-Hispanic illegals in sanctuary NYC).

If I come and go, I have my proof . After 9/11, you couldn't just cross and come back and say you were a US citizen. Coming back from Canada, they have ALWAYS (in all my almost 60 years) asked "What is your citizenship?" and STILL do.

Why shouldn't illegals and non-citizens have to prove citizenship?????

We are penalized because of illegals.

How is this that much different than a State ID, i.e. driver's license?

Neither are mandatory. Not to mention that the only time I've ever been asked for my state ID is to buy liquor.

Ask the Dems what they think about having ID for voting. They're all against it.

If you have no problem with it, why do you consider it penalizing?

Contradiction if you ask me.

Emily, I'm sure since the sheeple on the Right are in a coma right now (most conservatives are comatose when it comes to the police state, whereas liberals are waking up faster than conservatives), we're gonna have one day, what amounts to an internal passport similar to which the citizens of Russia, China, and North Korea currently "enjoy"
You can't be serious. A statement such as this illustrates quite clearly that you know nothing of conservative ideals.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but as usual the paranoid Right doesn't know what it's talking about. Let's just take a couple of examples:

1. The Real ID Act is not a law that requires everyone to carry a national, mandated identification document. What it does is set standards that state-issued ID's must meet to be acceptable for the federal government (http://www.dhs.gov/files/programs/gc_1200062053842.shtm - broken link) when an interaction with the federal government requires identification. Identification is issued by the states and databases are maintained by the state governments.

2. It's not "Obama's fault" and it didn't even happen "on his watch". This is a federal statute passed by Congress in 2005. Today is the date set by the final rule for compliance with the statute and the regulations promulgated thereunder. The date was established when the Bush administration issued the final rule in 2008.

3. You guys who don't like the Real ID Act? Congratulations. You're on the same side of the debate as the ACLU and immigrant-rights advocates.

Unfunded I might add. More unfunded Federal mandates on states.
And if a state does not comply, any people living in that state cannot use their driver license as proof of ID to any Federal agents. This includes TSA. So one would need another form of acceptable government issued ID in order to fly. This is after the dates of 2014 and 2017 depending on your date of birth.
