It's amazing at how much local money is spent because of "matching federal grants" and the like. Of course, the money comes out of the taxpayer's hide on both sides.
Kind of like one thug saying to another: "I'll mug this guy for $50 and you mug that other guy for another $50, and we'll have $100 to buy drugs!"
Unless we slash government to the bone at the federal, state and local levels, we'll all continue to work half of our time (if we have jobs at all) just to pay for massive, corrupt government. And BTW, the only time in recent history that a nation has recovered from a debt as massive as our government's, was in the early 1800s when England massively cut back government spending and the size of government, and the economy boomed and recovered. So if we want the nation to survive another 5 years, we'd better vote for Ron Paul and stop the Washington insanity that created and perpetuates our economic mess.
1) Someone else is paying, I'm getting what I can
2) Because you know darn well someone said, "What about those people who dont have internet at home, or what about if people are at the park, and they want to study "science""
3) Other links make statements like "They can learn about astronomy through the Star Walk application, which they can point at the sky to view and identify stars."
I don't understand that the County can get away with this when so many teachers get their pink slips...alhtough this County is giving less pink slips doesn't mean they have to spend the money this way.
My kids school wanted to buy lots of new flat screen tv's this year....while 500 teachers were gien a pink slip...to me that is outrageous.
As long as it is other peoples money they give away....What is wrong with books, which is way cheaper or a different tablet which cost half the money...
Florida has some pretty strict rules for doing this sort of thing. All of it has to be done in the open, all of it is public record, and the bidding process is very strictly enforced.
Depending on how they put out the request (RFP, RFQ, ITN), they may not be obligated to select the lowest bidder and can go with a higher price for various reasons.
I'm not saying they were right or wrong, but I am saying you cannot really tell one way or another just based on this news article.
This is an administrative law issue, and reporters are notoriously bad at understanding and reporting those kind of issues. It is a specialty area of the law not well understood outside of those that practice it regularly.
Unless someone can say that those procedures were violated, or that they didn't follow the Federal directives on how the money is to be spent...?
Actually Ipads are about $700-$800, and you know dam well they arent buying them at a wholesale price.. The other $200-$300 is probably for extras like warranties, and insurance..
No you don't know that.
In fact it is extremely UNLIKELY that they didn't get a significant discount.
Getting a serious discount is standard procedure for state and local government agencies down here.
Wasn't this declared a "right" by Jesse Jackson, Jr.?
So long as the itunes card was only used for modern day poets like Common, Lil Jeezy, Young Wayne, Wakka Flakka Flame, etc... so that the kids could learn about culturally important music LOL.
Yeah, I'm sure those iPads will solely be used for learning.
How would it be any different from PCs and laptops?
