SCOTUS says they don't need no stink'n warrants anymore.
My parents told me that if there was something I felt I had to do under the cover of dark night that I couldn't do during daylight that I probably shouldn't be doing it.
These late night SWAT raids are out of control. Too many mistakes, too many deaths. There is no reason they cannot arrest someone during the day rather than kicking in doors and endangering entire families as they open fire. Pathetic really.
No, they do not always announce themselves until they are into the house. Should they? Absolutely. Do they always, no.
If someone was breaking down my front door and I didn't know who the heck it was I'd have done the same thing as this now deceased marine.
From what I know, this warrant took place during the daylight hours, and was not a no knock warrant, they knocked and announced, with marked police vehicles out front with the lights on. They went to the correct house, knocked and announced, and the guy still chose to pick up an AR-15.
Too many back-woods sheriff departments shopping at the Army surplus stores and loading up on military gear and startng their own "SWAT Teams" for doing things NOT intended for SWAT. Serving a warrant is NOT a SWAT mission.

That's exactly what is being reported here, TBC.
Only an brain dead, gun toting thug would point a weapon at a SWAT Team under those circumstances.
As I posted earlier . . . there's lots more to this story than what our lopsided media has chosen to report.
The same guy who can't figure out Loughner needs to get checked out at the local nut ward, then blames Sarah Palin for his dereliction of duty is now involved with this.
In a situation like this you don't just stop at removing the officers involved. I think it was a tragedy but I wouldn't go so far as to make the SWAT team criminally liable. But you do take away their jobs and ban them for life from serving in law enforcement ever again. But then you go after the pension funds of the police union when the multi million dollar settlement is awarded to the mans widow. When police start seeing their pensions cut they'll think twice about irresponsible behavior in their ranks. I'd also levy fines against the department in the form of PAY CUTS to help offset the cost of the settlement. The entire department should help share the cost of the tragedy.
OMG, don't tell me this was Sheriff "Special Sheriff Doofy" Dupnik's department. No wonder the cops are running amok. That ignorant stupid clown has no business running a police department. I hope the widows lawyers go after this moron personally and sue his worthless arse into bankruptcy.
It doesn't matter that he was doing no harm. All that matters is he MAY have had something in his possession the authorities don't like.
How many more people have to die or have their lives ruined before the senseless war on drugs is stopped?
