The government of this country does not care about the people. If it had we would not have the big job export deals like NAFTA and the China deals. You would not see a president trying to destroy the American truck driver now by expanding NAFTA even more and turning over another large chunk of American jobs to cheap labor foreigners.

Get past the idea that the government brought this situation on because it cares about anyone.

Always did find it odd that conservatives wrap themselves in religion and the teachings of Christ...yet when it comes to the practical application of that philosophy ex.) Feeding the poor, they say Ef'em let them starve and fend for themselves.

When the tables tip and more people need help than those giving the help the nation is in trouble.
Each month the number of people on food stamps rises to new highs.

More Americans (and illegals) just cannot afford to live in America these days with rising costs and stagnant wages (if they are lucky enough to have a job).

And our government ? More worried about saving other nations (war or aid) than saving us.

Americans can give only so much via taxes and donations and still take care of themselves and their families.
Tax the wealthy more you say ? Well as shown by states that have tried that..the wealthy will just take off for tax havens and where does that leave you ?

Your comparison is odd

You can hardly compare churches and other charitable organizations using voluntary contributions to feed/care for the poor, to an inept government agency staffed by uncaring bureaucrats whom takes money confiscated from people of all classes and redistributes it to the groups of their choice.

Because a real conservative believes in the Constitution which provides for separation of church and state.

Keep your socialist morals out of my wallet!

The same "true conservatives" that say we need prayer in schools and need to teach creationism? And that say we are a "Christian" nation?

Not to mention the Abortion issue which is purely religion invading government.

Don't you have it kinda backwards? Have you heard about the billions in Church donations that go to help the poor? Aren't the majority of Church attendees conservatives?

Why do you say that ? How do you know what they donate to local organizations ?
Just because they are against more taxes does that mean they don't care ?

Do you honestly think $1.00 that you give to government gets turned into $1.00 that is given to the poor ? I'd venture a good chunk of that $1.00 gets eaten away by the very government you think is helping the poor.

Me.. if I spend $50 on canned goods and donate to a food pantry then I'm assured that 100% of my money..all $50 went towards food that directly helps the poor.

I learned a long time ago that giving money to any organization, including the government, gets whittled away before it gets to the people that the organization touts to be helping. Now I donate tangible goods.

Look, I don't travel to Hawaii to buy food so folks on food stamps shouldn't either.
I think there's too much abuse of the entitlement programs. Almost every state is reporting that their state's food stamps (in the millions of $$$) are being used in tourist destination spots like CA, FL and HI.

And don't even try to say "they are looking for jobs"..don't even. Not with Hawaii on that list.
