Yes, Paul Revere did warn the British and Sarah Palin is right.

The left are truly a bunch of simpletons with simple minds. Reminds me how when ignorant Obama supporters (is there any other kind?) recount how Sarah Palin said she could "see Russia from her back yard" they truly believe she said this when reality is it came from a Saturday Night Live clip. What she said is she could see Russian soil standing on Alaskan soil which you can. Never mind the truth, go to Saturday Night Live for all your information.

The Libs'll nitpick this no end, but defended Bubba Clinton to the death when he insisted he didn't know what the definition of "is" is.

You don't know what any of us thought of that. Presumptuous!

No, I didn't fail to read the OP link. I found it very interesting, as primary source documents generally are. Did you read it? And did you read what Palin said? Just in case, here's the transcript:

Quote:
PALIN: He who warned, uh, the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms uh by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free and we were going to be armed.
Please tell me where, in the letter from Paul Revere, Revere describes himself as "ringing those bells" and sending "warning shots and bells" during his ride. Yes, Revere was captured, and yes, the letter describes the information he gave to his captors, but nowhere in that letter does it describe Revere as having "... warned the British ... by ringing those bells..."

When asked to describe the ride of Paul Revere, most normal people would describe it simply and accurately as an effort to warn the colonialists that British soldiers were on their way. But Palin got it backwards - she said that Revere's mission was to warn the British soldiers, not the colonialists.

Here's part of the wikipedia entry for Paul Revere:

Quote:
Riding through present-day Somerville, Medford, and Arlington, Revere warned patriots along his route - many of whom set out on horseback to deliver warnings of their own. By the end of the night there were probably as many as 40 riders throughout Middlesex County carrying the news of the army's advance. Revere did not shout the phrase later attributed to him ("The British are coming!"), largely because the mission depended on secrecy and the countryside was filled with British army patrols; also, most colonial residents at the time considered themselves British as they were all legally British subjects. Revere's warning, according to eyewitness accounts of the ride and Revere's own descriptions, was "The Regulars are coming out."
As I said before, Palin is an idiot. And people defending her and trying to explain what she said about Revere are defending ignorance.

Quote:
They saw two lanterns in the North Church tower,
Ride, Ride
They knew this was to be the fateful hour
Ride, Ride
For a man to ride and to alarm
Ev'ry village and ev'ry farm
To awaken them and call to arm,
It was the ride of Paul Revere!

CHORUS
Ride! Ride! Tho' the night be cold.
Ride! Ride! Till the truth be told!
Ride! Ride! Like that man of old!
Ride like Paul Revere!

In seventy five upon an April night,
Ride! Ride!
The air was chilly and the moon shone bright.
Ride! Ride!
They rowed him past the man-of-war
Landed on the Charlestown shore,
Where the finest steed was ready for,
The ride of Paul Revere!

CHORUS

I wonder if, two hundred years ahead,
Ride! Ride!
If they will ride, or if they'll stay in bed.
Ride! Ride!
When faith and freedom within them die,
And when they hear that midnight cry
And the hoof-beats cross the moonlit sky,
Will they ride with Paul Revere?

"Paul" wasn't really talking about crying at midnight, by the way.

But he wasn't "ringin' bells" and "firin shots"! He used lights.

Sarah's problem is that she does not prepare for anything. Although, she had just been to Revere's house, so she should have had the story straignt in her mind.

Is that who we want to send to the negotiating table???

Revere made bells after the Revolutionary War. (No, it has nothing to do with anything relevant to the midnight ride, but if I am to assume Katiana is correct with the latimes article, then the question that was asked was, "who is Paul Revere?"

And there were shots fired on the midnight ride (actually morning) when British soldiers took Revere's horse to go to the Lexington Meeting-house. Revere wasn't the shooter.
