I would tend to agree with you if this was a verbal gaffe committed by a person that is thought to have a high amount of intellect. This kind of stuff is forgivable if you are Obama or Gingrich or someone that no reasonable person would accuse of being a moron.
However, the majority of the American people already believe that Sarah Palin is an idiot. Everytime she gets caught on camera saying stupid things or not being able to answer very simple questions it only reinforces what most people already think about her.
I'll go a little farther and say a gaffe is a gaffe is a gaffe. Her "Africa is a country" comment was probably a gaffe. But this was no gaffe. Sarah really thinks that's what happened.

I don't know if I'd say that's what she thinks happened, I think it's more likely she's unfamiliar with the details and doesn't care that she doesn't know, whenever she starts saying something - she's confident that folksiness will carry her through anything. I don't think it matters to her if it's strictly accurate. It's just for show.
It was often said that Bush II was incurious. Palin beats him by a mile in that regard, as McCain's team will attest to when they tried to coach her. Why learn details when you can charm your way through life?
I do find her very similar to Grandpa Simpson and his version of history - "Sugar Packet Palin" has a ring to it.
Didn't she just take a historical tour and visit Paul Reveres home? She spouts off about him ringing bells and firing warning shots so the Brits won't take our guns? Really though, WTF?
I'm waiting for Comedy Central to give her a show. They wouldn't even need to hire writers for her. They could say, "Okay, Sarah, look at the camera and just start talking!"
She mentioned Paul ringing bells and firing shots to alert the British - that did not happen. She either got flustered or just doesn't know her history. Either way, I think we can do better than her.
My guess is she was either drunk or pilled out when she was asked this question. At least that would make some kind of sense.
Where does that state that Revere was riding around sending warning shots and ringing bells?
Oh, it doesn't.
Backpedal much?
