Should raw milk (un-pasteurized milk, un-homogenized) be served in schools to children?

Isn't that illegal?

Raw milk is actually quite a bit healthier for you than pasteurized milk. There is more than enough information out there that is very easy to find (the only reason I won't post my sources is because I don't need them attacked without them even being looked at....google raw milk). It is currently decriminalized I believe...you can only buy it through CSAs. My question would assume that it would be legalized so it would be allowed to be sold in schools.

I think it should be up to the consumer,it is not the government's business.

If you can eat a raw oyster or raw beef, then why not raw milk?

Ahhh but see there is the rub. Because it would be offered in PUBLIC schools that use goverment money it would have to be approved by the FDA.

Don't you watch Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution?

Perhaps they could be given the choice. However, raw milk does have an increased risk of spreading sickness (Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, etc). Ultimately, however, it should be up to the parents or the children whether they'd like to drink raw milk.

It's funny, though, some would have you believe that "raw milk = dangerous", but in the scheme of things, the risk of contamination isn't extremely high. I certainly wouldn't consider it a public health risk.

The sickest I ever got in my whole life was from drinking unpasteurized milk. If you want to take a chance on your kids spending days, weeks or even months having diarrhea, stomach pain and vomiting let them drink milk straight from the cows. There's a good reason why they started pasteurizing milk in the first place.

as a kid I worked on my aunts dairy farm in CT, and raw milk is an aquired taste..its quite different (I do think its better, but that's my individual opinion)...I dont think many of the modern americans with their tastebuds set for white water, would like it...its like living in Germany for a few years getting used to real beer..then coming back to america and having a Bud..we call it american pisswater

Maybe we should just give people vouchers to attend private schools, then.
