I didn't suspect they had no gold. When the nation went off the gold standard there was no reason to have precious metal to back the money. In fact, anyone who had to be told didn't know his butt from page 9 in the first place.

Only fools thought they had gold. The last six months of printing as fast as the presses could print made it very obvious that they were putting us in the hole deeper and deeper.
