Subsidies pay farmers not to farm and completely negate competition. Capitalism is based on competition in the markets. Do away with subsidies and let those who grow food compete for business like the rest of the public sector.

Of course, the only way to really make that work is to get the government's dirty little paws out of the market place.

This quote could not be more perfect for this time of ours.

That is a good one. I like this one too:

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither!

2nd..See America has enough food to go around but when farmers are paid..NOT TO FARM...Problem.
Cut the subsidies...as long as anyone who want to farm can..See the free market will always win out if the Govt. gets the heck out of the way.
1. I am allowed to talk about anything I want on here. Do you have a problem with Americans talking about European issues on CD?

2. When you cut the subsidies, american farmers won't be able to sell their food for the current prices. That means American customers will probably demand cheaper food from foreign countries. That's how free markets work, but then don't complain that the US cannot compete with other countries. The manufactoring factor decreased, the agricultural sector would decrease. The US economy cannot sustain only relying on finance and services.

I don't really care if you talk about our problems all day long but I suggest you look in the mirror 1st.

Again America can grow enough food....If the damn govt. gets out of the way and lets farmers..farm and anyone else who wants too also.

And yet Americans spend billions of dollars on "safety" and don't have problems with the Patriot Act. It's the American people that didn't have a problem with it.

Yes yes I realize we have been doing this all along but times are different....WERE BROKE!

So we borrow money from China with interest and bail out the rest of the world which we will never get fully paid back....I doubt we will even get the interest payments back.

How about we just tell China to lend the money instead of us borrowing it?....You know why....Because they're not that FKING STUPID!
We are!!!!

And people out there are going to try and tell me the destruction of the U.S. is not coming..

Socialism/Liberalism/Progessivism is one big FKING failure and the U.S. taxpayer is on the hook.
I don't get why the EU and others are throwing so much money at a country of 10 million. Just because their banks hold crappy Greek debt. Wouldn't it be better to directly aid their own banks, or gasp, the affected citizens. Then shovelling money to Greece on an annual basis?

Without farm subsidies there will be more supply so prices would not rise. As was already pointed out, those farm subsidies are there because the govt. won't let them grow what they want and how much they want, so they pay them to make up for the difference. The government will say this is to keep food prices low, but that is BS. The only way to naturally lower the price of anything is through higher supply and competition not through government regulation.
