I guess the average liberal would be happier if we all lived in shacks without electricity or water, as long as there was no disparity in income.

Newsflash- even in communist states, there is a marked disparity in income among its citizens. To seek another means of "redistribution" is folly, as there will always be a "bell curve" for wealth, regardless of the political situation.
You assuming all liberals want everyone to be poor. Liberals are also capitalist just like you....one does not have anything to do with the other. There are as many wealthy liberals as conservatives. Don't be vague.

the tax rate on spending is a great example.

Agreed that there will always be a bell curve, those that are more driven, work harder, have brighter ideas shold be able to stand out from the pack - and be rewarded for it.

the income has already been redistributed ie the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy 1%.

The wealthy do NOT, I repeat.....DO NOT contribute more to our society than the lowliest of workers. Drive, working harder, brighter ideas have very little to do with wealth and income disparities. I've another post that spells out another dozen reasons why thats true, and many other posters could add a dozen more reasons to be wealthy. NONE have anything to do with drive, work or bright ideas.

Default Ridiculous conservative claptrap thinking

Lets not leave out the HUGE working middle class that made this country rich to begin with. Nurses, teachers, firefighters, auto workers, mfg. linemen, mechanics, IT mangers, small business people....must I go on? You liberals always gripe about the gap between the rich and the poor, but by your own admission more people than ever before have entered the ranks of the wealthy. Since everyone on Earth can't be a billionaire, you liberals think everyone should be equally poor (except for the liberal elite of course)? Very telling. The only thing this tells, is that you don't listen well, you have firmly entreanched your views garnered from Fox and affiliates and you just must not be all that after all.

And BTW, the reason society is collapsing on itself is precisely because the government has promised to redistribute wealth you mean when Bush gave the upper 1% of the populace a huge tax break????? among the recipient class even faster than they can confiscate it from the productive class. Its not confiscated from the "productive" class, otherwise it would be the working middle class that were enjoying the spoils of that huge tax cut, not the wealthy who TAKE from the working class, then SPEND the money in other countries Stealing money from productive people and dispersing it amongst the indigent will never eradicate poverty. It's been tried for nearly half a century with utterly dismal results.
This is a ridiculous analogy. When the wealthy actually become productive, themselves, insead of on the backs of the people actually doing the work for them....then maybe you will make sense.

drive, work and bright ideas are not exclusive to the rich otherwise the guy that made a fortune on girls gone wild, the pet rock, or mrs. fields the cookie maker would not be successful and wealthy.

Oh really? Let's see, under a 10% flat tax, a person making $30,000/year pays $3,000 and someone making $3,000,000/year pays $300,000. So the rich person pays $300,000 in taxes and the poor person pays only $3,000. OH THE HUMANITY!

Under our current system the one making $30,000 pays nothing into the system and the person making $3 million pays in excess of $1 million in taxes. Hardly fair.

$300,000 to a multi-millionirebillionaire IS like leaving a tip. It doesn't even put a down payment on his 3rd yacht, that he purchased overseas, since our yachtbuilders are all broke....because the billionaire found it cheaper to have that boat built by a "developing nation". It certainly doesn't buy him a house, he wouldn't live in a $300,000 claptrap of a home, it wouldn't even rebuild his 4th master bedroom closet. Besides the fact, that he has an offshore account, and he moved his business and his home office beyond the shores of the US TAX authority anyway.....so HE PAYS ZERO.....quite a bit less than the person payin 3 grand.

That's not even remotely true.

You know why we know that?

Because the Federal Government still has revenues coming in.
